Artist Bao Khuong was born into a family with artistic traditions, with his uncle being the artist Cai Luong Thanh Tu, famous since the 50s.

According to Bao Khuong, his family used to be very poor, his grandparents worked as planters and transplanted for hire. His mother had to take a lamp to pick rice at 12 p.m. for fear of being scolded by the owner, and a can of rice was brought back to eat all day.

However, Bao Khuong's grandfather knew how to play, asked his neighbor for a pair of pliers and taught his son, artist Thanh Tu, to sing from a young age. Growing up, Thanh Tu went to Saigon to study singing and was taught by artist Nam Chau. After that, artist Thanh Tu was returned to the illustrious Thanh Minh Thanh Nga troupe, singing with the stage queen Thanh Nga.

Artist Bao Khuong was still a child, so he was allowed to be a sound traction leg in the Cai Luong troupe. As a result, he was soon exposed to the stage, sitting under the stage day by day watching the performers and the art gradually seeped from time to time.

Since then, the passion for art has grown in Bao Khuong. He asked Thanh Tu to accompany the troupe everywhere.

After that, Bao Qiang went to work for the Qingming Qing Nga troupe. During this time, he shared the sound with artist Huu Thin (brother of artist Thanh Nga) in the play Ben Bridge weaving silk. His job was to pull the microphone for the artist to sing on stage (because the artist in those days did not hold the mic to sing, but needed a mic hanging from above to capture the sound, so someone had to adjust and pull the mic wire).

But at that time, Bao Qiang accidentally pulled the mic in front of him, touched Qing Nga's sports hat, affecting the climactic circuit, so the next day he was dismissed by pregnant Tho. Mrs. Tho (Thanh Nga's mother and also the head of Thanh Minh Thanh Nga's delegation) sent an envelope to Bao Khuong, which stated: "Find another job, you are not suitable for this job."

Despite quitting his job, Bao Khuong continued to pursue his passion for theater. He doesn't do sound anymore but plays soldier roles, from which he goes up to double poison.

Around the beginning of the 80s, Bao Khuong accompanied a troupe of Cai Luong to perform, one performance was only 6000 VND, but one night was also 4 performances, singing until 4 am. But because he was not satisfied with how to work with one of the crew, he took a leave of absence from his job as a cyclo carrier.

For a while, artist Bao Khuong returned to singing, asked to perform in places with the lowest salary and then built his career again. However, he was not fortunate enough to be illuminated by the spotlight, so his career was always rocky.

A few months ago, at the show "The Narrator of Life", artist Bao Khuong revealed that he still does not have a show, has to sell toad coffee, earning more than 3 million a month. His wife has gone abroad and has not contacted him for a long time. At home, only he and an older son live together.

Although life is still difficult, artist Bao Khuong is still temporarily satisfied because he does not owe anyone.

Not only Bao Khuong, many viewers were surprised when artists have been active for many years in the profession such as Duy Phuong, Viet Anh, Bach Long,... still have to worry about paying monthly rent because there is no stable home.
