Ngoc Ha (born in 1980) is known as a famous overseas singer. With a high, clear and full voice, Ngoc Ha soon succeeded in songs with folk and lyrical sounds.
Singer Ngoc Ha, whose real name is Nguyen Kim Tuyen, was born on December 23, 1980 in Hoi An. She is the youngest child in a family of 7 siblings. In 1986, Ngoc Ha and her family settled in Dong Nai province. After a while, she went to study in Saigon and regularly participated in music activities here.
Initially, Ngoc Ha did not receive encouragement from her family. However, after many contests, the singer convinced her mother and since then pursued her singing dream. When registering at a singing competition at the ward level, Kim Tuyen randomly chose the stage name Ngoc Ha. She chose the name Ngoc Ha because she "didn't dare to take her real name, so that if she failed, she wouldn't have a hometown", and gradually that name became familiar in other contests.
In 1995, she represented Dong Nai province in the traditional singing contest and won the consolation prize. In 1996, Ngoc Ha excellently entered the final round of the "Saigon Voice of Television" award. In 1997, she won the second prize "Dong Nai Television Singing" and the first prize "Binh Duong Television Singing" and entered the final round of the "Saigon Television Singing" award. Also in 1997, Ngoc Ha won the Silver Medal in a folk song contest organized by the Saigon Women's Culture House with the song "Ru Con Bac Bo".
Ngoc Ha went to the US in March 2000 sponsored by a brother. After a year in San Francisco while studying English and knitting at the same time, she has lived in San Jose until now. The reason Ngoc Ha decided to live in San Jose was because she realized that this city has a large number of Vietnamese people, and it is convenient for her to move places.
Once settled in the US, Ngoc Ha sent her recording CDs to a number of music centers, but at first none of them helped her achieve her dream. In the summer of 2001, Ngoc Ha had the opportunity to meet MC Nguyen Ngoc Ngan in a program organized by Thuy Nga Center in San Jose. She asked for contact, then sent a sample CD to Toronto to ask him to introduce to Thuy Nga center. After several difficult times, she was invited by the center to collaborate in 2002, and began appearing on the show Paris By Night 63.
Ngoc Ha's ability surprised listeners when she first appeared in the program Paris By Night 63 - Timeline in 2002 with the song Mai Dinh Lang Bien by musician Nguyen Cuong.
Through the next program "Paris By Night 64 - Auditorium Music Night", Ngoc Ha once again conquered the audience with the song Remember each other (Tuan Khanh). With the song Sad Autumn by musician Van Cao on Paris By Night 65 with the theme of Love, her name has become familiar to many listeners.
Since 2006, she has been a freelance singer. In addition to Thuy Nga Center, she also collaborates with Asia Center, Van Son Center, Love Center. The first song she sang for Van Son Center was "Ho on the Mountain" by musician Pho Duc Phuong, elaborately choreographed with Lac Hong dance troupe in DVD Van Son 34 - Homeland in the Sky Region in 2006 was a great success for her.
Ngoc Ha's ability is clearly shown through folk songs such as: "Mil communal house of sea village" (Nguyen Cuong), "My Oi" (Dieu Huong), "Can't and Can", "On top of Phu Van" (Pho Duc Phuong), "Moon falls by the lake" (Nhat Trung). Along with love songs such as Sad Autumn (Van Cao).
She proves that she is not confined to a particular genre and "transforms in all levels of expression", at times gentle and deep in pop ballads, at times full of energy when singing at a very wide range in The Blue River (Le beau Danube blue, Vietnamese lyrics by Pham Duy), and dramatic with Con Stoo (Luu Ha An) with a modern rock style with folk materials, "On the top of Phu Van".
Ngoc Ha conquered the audience with her clear voice and the art of expressing emotions through the songs she performed, as well as "with her refined voice, the high passages are stroked sweetly". She carefully selects songs, often songs that can convey the feelings of her homeland and people with smooth words, nostalgia and finds her own unique feature in singing songs that were once resounding.
It can be said that Ngoc Ha is a different color in the overseas art world. If many fellow singers specialize in the bolero line, Ngoc Ha identifies herself through songs showing off her voice, showing off her technique and bold Northern colors. Thanks to that, she has her own position and audience. Because of her outstanding personality, Ngoc Ha often sings solo. Occasionally, she collaborates with a few male singers such as Quang Le, Thien Ton...
Quang Le and Ngoc Ha are known as a popular duet in both overseas and domestic for nearly 20 years, associated with Thuy Nga stage.
Quang Le once told about beautiful memories with Ngoc Ha: "I and Ngoc Ha have been known as a good duet on the overseas stage for decades. We came together as a predestined and deeply attached. At that time, Ngoc Ha and I went to sing together in all temples and churches, everywhere.
The first chance that led us to each other was Thuy Nga Paris by night. At that time, both Ngoc Ha and I were new singers, appearing on Thuy Nga a few times. After recording that program, both Ngoc Ha and I looked at the poster with great emotion. It's extremely happy that two new singers like us can have a picture in the center of the poster."
Ngoc Ha heard that and immediately expressed about Quang Le: "At that time, we sang Ai to Hue. Quang Le was still very thin and scholarly, I went to the stage to look at him and was startled because he was so handsome. To this day, I still vividly remember that feeling."
Next, Quang Le revealed about Ngoc Ha's current family background: "I've been singing with Ngoc Ha for a long time, but now I'm quite surprised to see her again because she has become the mistress. Ngoc Ha's husband is a very powerful person overseas. I have to rely on my husband Ngoc Ha to make music shows.
Not only me, but all Vietnamese in Orange County, when doing art-related programs, have to rely on my husband Ngoc Ha because he has a company about light and sound. Ngoc Ha's husband made a very beautiful stage, and was loved by artists, so everyone wanted to ask for him. Now, when I meet Ngoc Ha, I call her the owner and expect her to give a discount to our artists."
It is known that Ngoc Ha got married in July 2017. Her husband is Robert (Vietnamese name is Viet Anh), he currently runs a company specializing in sound, lighting and stage construction. The singer and his wife live together very happily, warmly and harmoniously.
Ngoc Ha once shared about her husband that: "Actually, my husband is a businessman, but he also has a very artistic soul, so he always wants to help artists and brothers and sisters make programs. My husband is very kind."
Ngoc Ha's 43 years old is very peaceful. She often shoots videos of her daily life to chat with the audience. Ngoc Ha's stories often revolve around music and family. It can be seen that she is very happy with her small family.
