In addition to singing activities, Dong Dao also takes on the role of a vocal teacher. At the age of 54, the female singer is still actively learning to refresh herself in front of the audience.
In the Vietnamese folk and lyrical music industry, singer Dong Dao is a name associated with persistence and a career journey with many ups and downs. At the age of 54, the female singer still maintains regular artistic activities, sings, participates in music programs and maintains the love of the audience thanks to her characteristic voice and rustic and close performance style.
Dong Dao's full name is Nguyen Thuy Dong Dao, born in 1971. She fell in love with the stage very early. When she was only 6 years old, Dong Dao sang in front of the crowd for the first time. Although she was very young at that time and it was inevitable to tremble, it was that moment that sowed the seeds of love for art in her. Since her high school years, Dong Dao has regularly participated in cultural programs at school and in the locality, gradually forming a clear passion for singing.
After graduating from high school, Dong Dao entered the College of Culture and Arts. This is considered an important turning point to help her have a methodical academic background and approach music seriously. During this period, Dong Dao participated in the Military Zone 7 Literary Troupe, following the troupe to perform in many provinces and cities. The long tours not only help her accumulate stage experience but also train her professional bravery in a professional performance environment.
1991 marked an important milestone when Dong Dao participated and won the first prize in the Ho Chi Minh City Television Singing Contest. This achievement helped her name be known more widely, opened up many opportunities to perform and brought Dong Dao officially into the path of professional singing. However, success does not mean that all difficulties end.
In many shares, Dong Dao frankly said that she once had a period when she didn't dare to sing because of her appearance. The singer once admitted that she did not have a prominent appearance, which made her lack confidence when standing on stage, especially in the context of showbiz increasingly promoting her image. At one point, Dong Dao chose to step back, focusing on practicing her voice and performance skills, instead of following the flashy trend outside.
In parallel with the music path, Dong Dao has gone through a period of making a living by doing many different jobs. Before her singing career stabilized, she used to open a building glass business to make ends meet. Trading helps her earn more income but also requires a lot of time and effort. However, Dong Dao said that this was a time that helped her learn to be independent, persevering and not completely dependent on art.
At one point, Dong Dao lived abroad and had to suspend singing activities. During this time, she mainly stayed at home to take care of her family, cook and teach her children to learn Vietnamese. The singer once shared that that silence made her realize the value of her family and helped herself look back on her career path more slowly and cautiously.
After returning to Vietnam, Dong Dao gradually returned to the stage. She continued to sing, participate in music programs and maintain a stable performance frequency. One of the stories that has attracted attention recently related to Dong Dao is that she shared about a "lucky object" that has been with her for many years. It was an old phone that she bought a long time ago, worth the equivalent of 6 gold threads at that time. Dong Dao said that since using this phone and changing her contact number, her performance work has become more convenient, receiving many invitations to sing, and her sand has also improved significantly.
In the early years of singing professionally, Dong Dao's salary used to be quite low. She is not afraid to recount the time when she had to run provincial shows, receive modest remuneration, and sometimes even only enough to cover living expenses. However, after having a certain foothold in the music industry, the female singer's salary increased significantly, reflecting the audience's recognition of her voice and serious professional efforts.
At the age of 50, Dong Dao does not put much emphasis on glory or competition. She said that she is satisfied with her current life, has a stable job, can sing regularly and still retains joy with music. The female singer chooses a quiet lifestyle, does not make noise on social networks, rarely shares her private life and focuses on artistic activities that are suitable for her abilities and health.
Dong Dao also admitted that the singing profession is not always easy, especially for artists who pursue folk and lyrical music. Audience tastes changed, the stage became more and more competitive, but she remained consistent with the path she chose. For Dong Dao, being able to stand on stage and sing to serve the audience is the most important thing, more than fame or materiality.
Sharing about her upcoming plans, singer Dong Dao said that she is preparing to launch a traditional music album. Growing up from the Art Troupe of Military Zone 7, traditional music has stuck with her throughout her career and has become an important musical foundation.
From her familiarity and long-term performance experience with this genre, the female singer decided to make an album specializing in traditional music in the nearest time to send to the audience.
Looking back on the journey of more than three decades of working in the profession, Dong Dao considers the difficulties he has experienced as an inevitable part of his life as an artist. From the shy girl singing in front of the crowd for the first time, to the mature and calm female singer at the age of 54, Dong Dao still retains her love for music and seriousness in the profession. No noise, no ostentation, Dong Dao's journey is a testament to a persistent choice: living with passion, patience and appreciation for what you have.
