Humidity is considered a "special" weather phenomenon in the North of our country, often appearing in late winter and early spring. Simply put, humidity occurs when the humidity in the air increases, leading to dampness and mold on the surface of floors and walls.

Each wet season usually lasts from 3-5 days, sometimes even a week. This year’s wet season is forecasted to start around the end of February and last until April.

According to meteorological experts, this year's wet season will not be as strong as last year's. However, no matter how strong the wet season is, once it comes, everyone will feel very tired.

The wet season is a "specialty" of the Northern weather, so sooner or later we have to face it. Although everyone is fed up with the humidity, mold and discomfort that the wet season brings, fortunately, there are still effective ways to improve living space, reduce humidity and protect health during these days.

Dehumidifiers are the most effective way to reduce humidity in the air, creating a dry space, avoiding mold and unpleasant odors. For optimal efficiency, you should choose a dehumidifier with a capacity suitable for the area of your room.

When the weather is humid, you should close the windows to limit the humidity from outside from entering the indoor space. You can combine the use of a dehumidifier to help the air in the house circulate and absorb moisture, the space will certainly be significantly drier. Note that when the weather is humid, you should not turn on the fan because it will make the air more humid, causing the humidity to increase and leading to water condensation on the surface, easily creating conditions for mold to grow.

In addition, you can install super moisture-resistant plasterboard on the ceiling and walls to minimize condensation on the surface, keeping the living space dry and clean. For electronic devices, you should leave them on standby or use desiccant bags to protect them from damage caused by high humidity. Using essential oils has an antiseptic effect and creates a pleasant aroma, helping to reduce odors and mold in the house. Another simple way is to burn candles to create heat, reduce humidity in the air and create a pleasant aroma.

During the humid season, people need to pay attention to regularly cleaning surfaces that are prone to water stagnation to avoid creating an environment for fungi, bacteria, etc. to live; regularly change bedding, curtains, remove carpets and clean the house; exercise regularly every day to improve resistance; always wear a mask when going out, especially in crowded places; add nutritious foods to the daily menu; eat cooked food, absolutely do not eat spoiled or moldy food to avoid the risk of gastrointestinal diseases; when preparing food, ensure food hygiene and safety; if you have a chronic disease, you need to maintain your prescription and follow your doctor's health care recommendations; always keep your body warm and limit getting wet when it rains.

For children and the elderly, it is necessary to pay attention to personal hygiene, take warm baths and dry the body immediately after bathing to avoid catching a cold; if there are signs of prolonged rhinitis or sore throat, it is necessary to see a doctor for timely treatment to avoid the disease becoming more serious.

Forecasting that humid weather is likely to occur in the coming time, on February 7, Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Nguyen Van Huong said that humid weather will occur from the end of February and last until April 2025.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, according to the climate law, February is still the main month of winter. Therefore, cold air still has a strong impact on our country.

"The phenomenon of humid weather will occur commonly in the Northern region, especially the capital Hanoi from the end of February to April every year. During the humid period, the air humidity increases above 85% accompanied by drizzle and fog, causing dampness in houses, civil works and essential items," said Mr. Nguyen Van Huong.

Humid weather causes difficulties in daily life and adversely affects health. High humidity is also a favorable environment for agents that cause respiratory diseases and allergies, especially for children and the elderly.
