NewJeans 'pays a heavy price' for turning on HYBE, revealing 'golden report' for LE SSERAFIM?

After the news of NewJeans members being pushed out of the Top 100 reputation rankings, a new survey shows that Minji and Hanni are still in the Top 10.

According to Hankyung, the Asia Brand Research Institute, a big data evaluation agency, released its monthly reputation rankings for K-pop girl group members on October 28.

K-Brand Index is a big data analysis system developed by the Asian Brand Research Institute in collaboration with domestic and foreign researchers. Unlike current haphazard collection methods, everything from candidate sampling to index selection is done by K-Brand Index through verification by the advisory committee for each field.

In particular, the K-Brand Index's female Kpop idol rankings apply the same standards as the individual Kpop girl group member reputation rankings announced by the Korean Brand Reputation Research Institute on October 20.

K-Brand Index extracted and analyzed 174,588,173 online data from September 20 to October 20, 2024.

In the Top 30 of K-Brand Index's female K-pop idol reputation rankings, all 5 NewJeans members (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) are present. The Top 10 are Jang Won Young (IVE), Jennie (Blackpink), Karina (aespa), An Yujin (IVE), Kim Chaewon (LE SSERAFIM), Minji (NewJeans), Rosé (Blackpink), Winter (aespa), Natty (Kiss Of Life) and Hanni (NewJeans).

Previously, the Korean Brand Reputation Research Institute caused controversy when it announced the October Kpop female idol reputation rankings, which were completed without 5 NewJeans members. Although NewJeans is a famous girl group in Korea and is a model and ambassador for dozens of different brands.

Fans discovered that NewJeans members began to drop in rankings since the conflict between former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin and HYBE Group broke out in April this year. By September, they had completely disappeared from the Top 100.

Fans are questioning whether there is any interference in the K-pop idol rankings of the Korea Research Institute of Brand Reputation. Mr. Ryu Won Seon of the Asia Brand Research Institute shared: "Minji and Hanni of NewJeans, who were pushed out of the Top 100 in the Korean Research Institute's brand reputation survey, have risen to the top of our rankings, proving their unwavering presence.

Hanni has a high negative index value, but also a high positive index value, which is understood to have compensated for the legal dispute issue. This result shows that the transparency and objectivity of rating agencies are key elements of the basic principles in data analysis."

On HYBE's side, according to HYBE's internal report regarding NewJeans, LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT, there are many noteworthy points. According to Koreaboo, the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just released audited internal documents of HYBE Group.

In an excerpt about the group's plans for girl groups, it was revealed that HYBE staff had planned to eliminate NewJeans. When ILLIT debuted and joined the ranks of HYBE's girl groups including NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM, many media outlets called the trio "New-I-LE" to praise the groups as HYBE's new generation of idols.

The report includes plans to remove “New” (NewJeans) from the acronym and create a category for girl groups that achieved million-unit sales in their first week, to include LE SSERAFIM in their promotions. The document states: “With NewJeans, ILLIT, and LE SSERAFIM, the phrase “New-I-LE” from HYBE has begun to appear on community pages and there has been a slight increase in mentions of ILLIT.

Now, we can put Blackpink - LE SSERAFIM - aespa - IVE into a group of girl groups that sold millions in the first week, instead of dividing them into 4th generation.
