Mr Pips built the perfect cover of a lavish life. He constantly bragged about huge profits from stocks, virtual currencies and teaching how to get rich to lure gullible people. It was all just an elaborate drama that collapsed when the fraud was exposed.
Pho Duc Nam, born in 1994, residing in Ward 8, Vung Tau City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, has built an incredibly perfect cover. Widely known by the nickname Mr. Pips, Nam appeared to the public not as a sophisticated scammer, but as a successful financial expert, a prestigious "teacher" of how to get rich. A lavish, flashy life with a series of supercars, branded watches and promises of "huge" profits has become a sweet trap, set to deceive thousands of victims and appropriate more than 5,300 billion VND.
The Rise of an Unbeatable 'Trader'
On social media platforms such as TikTok and YouTube, Pho Duc Nam, nicknamed Mr Pips, has built a powerful and successful image. Each of Nam's videos and posts is a film about a life that many people dream of: a series of expensive supercars, luxurious trips, sparkling branded watches and piles of cash. Nam not only shows off his wealth, but also cleverly turns those things into "proof" of his "invincible" investment ability.
Nam introduces himself as an "undefeated trader" with 10 years of experience in the international gold and stock investment market. Screenshots of accounts with profits of tens of thousands of USD are continuously posted, creating absolute trust from followers. Every word, every philosophy of getting rich that Nam shares carries the weight of a "financial expert" who has experienced enough glory.
"Be realistic, open your mind, talk to rich people and listen to what makes them different from you, then you can make progress," Nam once shared on his personal page. This saying is not only a piece of advice, but also a powerful psychological blow, arousing the desire to get rich of those who are looking for a "life-changing opportunity". Nam has created a community, an environment where wealth is revered and promises of success become extremely attractive. He doesn't just sell a product, he sells a dream.
Sophisticated tricks and perfect "chicken herding" traps
Mr Pips' success did not come from his real talent, but from a meticulously staged scam scenario. Starting from sharing videos teaching how to get rich, "real-life" investment in international stocks, Forex, gold... attracting hundreds of thousands of views, Nam gradually lured fans into closed groups on Telegram and Zalo. This is where the trap was set in the most sophisticated way.
In these groups, Nam and his associates would continuously give out "signals" and "assessments" of the market, drawing up scenarios of big profits for "gullible" investors to follow. Victims were lured into Forex or "virtual" stock exchanges created by Nam and his accomplices. Initially, the victims would be given "sweet fruits" with small winning orders, making them trust and invest more money. When the investment amount was large enough, all of this money would be appropriated and the victims would be "kicked" out of the groups, unable to contact Mr. Pips.
The entire fraud system was systematically built, from creating a cover, attracting attention, building trust, to seducing and appropriating assets. The philosophies of getting rich, the motivational words and the fake glitz became the perfect "cover" to hide an organized crime ring. Nam did not act alone. He had a large network, including accomplices such as Le Khac Ngo, nicknamed Mr Hunter, and Ngo Thi Theu, Ngo's wife. This connection created a tight-knit "fraud" that operated smoothly for a long time.
The mysterious "disappearance" and the inevitable ending
About 2 months ago, Mr Pips' social media channels suddenly stopped working. The Telegram channel, where trading signals are often posted, or the personal Facebook page with pictures of supercars and money, all became "paralyzed". This sudden silence raised many questions in public opinion. Many investors began to notice unusual signs, when they no longer received trading "orders" and could not withdraw money from the "virtual" platforms they had participated in.
The drama of Mr Pips and his accomplices officially ended on August 15, when Ngo Thi Theu (born in 1995), a defendant in the fraud case involving Pho Duc Nam and Le Khac Ngo, was extradited from Thailand to Vietnam. This was an important step in exposing the entire fraud ring.
According to information from the Ministry of Public Security, Theu is an internationally wanted person at the request of the Interpol Office of Vietnam. After a period of hiding, Theu was discovered to be residing illegally in Thailand on May 22. With close coordination between the Thai Police and the Interpol Office of Vietnam, Theu was arrested. A working group from the Office of the Investigation Police Agency of the Ministry of Public Security and the Hanoi City Police went to Thailand to receive and escort Theu back to Vietnam safely and in accordance with procedures.
The arrest of Ngo Thi Theu is not only a success of the Vietnamese authorities but also an affirmation of the determination to hunt down criminals to the end, no matter where they are hiding. The close connection between the subjects in the chain has been exposed. The case of fraud and appropriation of assets with a huge amount of more than 5,300 billion VND, led by Mr. Pips and his accomplices, has officially closed.
Through the case of Mr Pips, a valuable lesson has been learned. The flashy cover and promises of "changing your life" on social networks are just tools for scammers to approach and take over the trust of others. Mr Pips has built an image that is too perfect, causing many people to forget the basic principles of investment and fall into the trap. The story of the "undefeated trader" Mr Pips has become a strong warning for anyone looking for a "shocking" and quick way to get rich without having to go through any effort.
