Mai Tay Bac: Tiktoker helps consume agricultural products, brings highland culture to the audience

Mai Tay Bac, real name Pham Thi Phuong Mai, was born in 1995 in Hai Duong. She is one of the most famous Tiktokers in Vietnam with content revolving around life and cuisine in the Northwest region.

Mai Tay Bac started her Tiktoker career in 2021. Initially, she only posted short videos about daily life and specialties of the Northwest region. However, thanks to her creativity and attractive content delivery, her Tiktok channel quickly attracted the attention of a large number of viewers.

Sharing with the media, Ms. Mai said that she was born and raised in Hai Duong, graduated from the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, Thanh Do University with a degree in tourist guidance. She married Mr. Tan Tuong Nhan (36 years old, Dao ethnic group, in Bat Xat district, Lao Cao) and is now following her husband to the Northwest. Previously, she and her husband made videos posted on YouTube to support orphans and those in difficult circumstances in the village. When interacting with the people, she realized that they have a lot of clean, delicious agricultural products that suit her family's taste.

In 2023, people were sad because the ginseng crop was good but traders did not buy it. The Northwestern winter was very cold and rainy, but people still tried to carry 50-70 kg of ginseng each time across the muddy dirt road, only to have to leave it on the roadside because it could not be sold. "People worked hard all year but could not get any capital back, so I intended to find a way to sell it. The "Mai Tay Bac" channel was born after that idea. At first, I made clips with the purpose of promoting the image to everyone and then helping people sell agricultural products," she said.

One of Mai Tay Bac’s special features is that she always tries to introduce and promote clean and healthy agricultural products from the Northwest region. She regularly makes videos about the production, harvesting and processing of agricultural products such as wild honey, ginseng, and specialty vegetables and fruits. These videos not only help viewers better understand agricultural products but also contribute to raising awareness about the consumption of clean and safe food.

The products are made by her own hands or by people in the area. "Since building the channel and going to remote areas and other ethnic minorities, many people have recognized me. They also trust me to send agricultural products for me to sell via social networks," she said.

In addition to positive comments, Ms. Mai also often reads opinions that there are no strange dishes like in the clip. With these opinions, she often explains in detail to help people understand the culture of the Northwest people. From there, through her channel, many people, despite the great geographical distance, still find the Northwest very close and familiar and wish to go there once. "Each region has a different way of eating. Cuisine has a legacy, so I always guide people to respect the way of eating and the long-standing dishes of the people," Ms. Mai shared.

In addition, Mai Tay Bac also participates in many charity and community support activities. She has organized many donation and support programs for farmers in the highlands, helping them sell agricultural products and improve their lives. These activities not only help her build a positive image but also demonstrate the sense of responsibility and compassion of a celebrity.
