Keeping the wishes of his father – People's Artist Ly Huynh, actor Ly Hung, his sister Ly Huong and his family brought Tet gifts and red packets to the hands of old artists. The emotional moment made many people choke.
On the morning of February 9, the atmosphere at Thi Nghe Nursing Center became especially warm when actor Ly Hung, his mother and sisters visited, wished Tet and gave gifts to older artists living here. This is not only an ordinary volunteer trip but has become a beautiful tradition of his family over the years, following the wish of the late People's Artist Ly Huynh – who always gave full respect to the previous generation of artists.
Sharing about the reason for maintaining this activity, Ly Hung said that when he was alive, his father went to the nursing home every year to wish Tet, ask questions and review career memories with former colleagues. After his death, the family considered it as a will. He recalled his father's words: "No matter what you do, you must love and take care of elderly and difficult artists". For Ly Hung, continuing that tradition is not only a responsibility but also a pride.
During the visit, Ly Hung, Ly Huong and their relatives prepared many gifts including sweets, milk, essential foods and crimson red envelopes. The whole family went to each room, kindly chatted and asked about the health of each artist. The handshakes, tearing eyes and gentle smiles made the atmosphere of the meeting close and emotional.
Ly Hung confided: "No matter how busy I am, I still arrange a time to come here because I know that my aunts and uncles are expecting it. In the future, we will also grow old and weak. The last thing left is love, how to live so that everyone loves you." For him, being remembered by the audience and colleagues is the greatest happiness of an artist in his late twenties.
The reunion became special when Artist Dieu Hien recounted many old memories with the late People's Artist Ly Huynh, from the time she was guided by him to act in films to the time she became a famous peach of the Cai Luong stage. In the memories of artists, People's Artist Ly Huynh has always been like a big brother, wholeheartedly protecting and creating conditions for juniors to work with peace of mind and have a stable life.
Artist Ngoc Dang – the oldest of the artists living at the center – despite the difficulty of walking after the incident, still sat in a wheelchair to the lobby to meet people. Although her health is no longer the same as before, she still maintains an optimistic and happy spirit. Improvised, she sang the song "My Village" to the guests and then turned to tease Ly Hung: "You look so crazy these days", making the whole room laugh in a friendly atmosphere.
Seeing the uncles being well cared for, Ly Hung was both happy and heartbroken when he remembered the familiar faces who had left one after another. He said: "Every year, I see the absence of some familiar faces. I just hope that the uncles are healthy so that me, my colleagues and the audience have the opportunity to talk and confide every year."
Previously, Ly Hung's family had contributed more than 500 million VND to repair the Artist Nursing Home in District 8. When this facility deteriorated, the artists were sent to Thi Nghe Nursing Center from the end of February 2024 at the proposal of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association. Ho Chi Minh City. After two years of moving to a new place, many artists have passed away, so the number of people staying is no longer large. The center currently has 5 artists living, including artist Huynh Thanh Tra, artist Mac Can, artist Dieu Hien, artist Ngoc Dang and artist Lam Son.
The visit at the beginning of the year by Ly Hung's family not only brought material gifts but also a great source of spiritual encouragement for older artists. In the simple space of Thi Nghe Nursing Center, the camaraderie of teachers and students and gratitude to the predecessors have created a complete, warm and humane Tet.
