Lil Ken: Rapper who specializes in virtual life, joined hands with ex-wife to cheat her out of 1.8 billion VND and was temporarily detained

Lil Ken is known as a famous rapper in the Vietnamese underground community. He has just been temporarily detained by the Economic Police Department (PC03) of Ho Chi Minh City Police to investigate the act of Fraudulent appropriation of property.

Lil Ken's real name is Trinh Thanh Duc, born in 1996, graduated with a major in Marketing from Hoa Sen University, Ho Chi Minh City. In 2016, Thanh Duc started working in the rap industry with the stage name Lil Ken. At the same time, he produced the MV "Vietnam Racing Boy" with many scenes of racing and swerving on the street.

After a few years of making music videos about racing, Lil Ken switched to composing and contributing his voice to love-themed songs such as: Het thuong thi thoi (Nhat Minh); Hom nay em theo chong (Thien Vuong); Thuong sao noi hai loi (Thien Vuong - Nhat Minh), Co chnh nhau la sai (Phat Lee), Tu khuc sau (Long Non La)...

Pursuing rap for many years, Lil Ken mainly works within the community with the same passion, does not have many shows, mainly performs with the team. Partly because the male rapper is not too outstanding in terms of skills, his ability to compose or produce music is also average. In the profession, he often interacts with rappers KaiSoul, TVK, Queen B, singer Hana Cam Tien...

In 2023, Lil Ken registered to participate in "Rap Viet" season 3 but did not make it to the next round. The "Rap Viet" season 4 fanpage also posted a picture of him at the casting in Hanoi. However, when the show aired, the 9x did not appear, so he must have failed the "parking" round.

Despite releasing many songs, rapper Lil Ken rarely builds his image in the media so he is not mentioned much by the mainstream media. In addition to rapping and producing music with the 93NewG team, he also livestreams to sell products on online platforms.

Lil Ken also has a large fan base with a TikTok channel of 325,000 followers and a Facebook account of 35,000 followers. On his personal page, in addition to pictures of him performing at entertainment venues, bars... the male rapper also often shows off his rich life with cars, luxury goods, cash, expensive accessories, and expensive motorbike hobby...

To build his image, Lil Ken updates many moments appearing with famous people and successful businessmen; films a series of clips talking about the secrets of success, how to make money, how to start a business or shares videos about "tens of billions" livestream sessions...

On December 24, Lil Ken was prosecuted and temporarily detained by the Economic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police for fraud and property appropriation. Also prosecuted for the same crime, Nguyen Thi Lan (26 years old, residing in Binh Tan District, Lil Ken's ex-wife) was banned from leaving her place of residence. The above decisions and orders were approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Procuracy.

This is the result of a special case established and successfully dismantled by the Department of Investigation Police on Corruption, Economic Crimes, and Smuggling (PC03) of Ho Chi Minh City Police. Accordingly, Nguyen Thi Lan colluded with her ex-husband, rapper Lil Ken, to provide false information that she knew many people in high positions, who could help Ta Nguyen Hong An (26 years old), Lan's high school classmate, contact the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security to pay compensation on An's behalf.

The reason is that An is being investigated for fraud and property appropriation. However, after receiving the money, these two subjects used the entire amount for personal purposes without taking any action as committed. This behavior caused An's family to lose money without getting any results.

Since the beginning of December, Lil Ken has almost "disappeared" from social media platforms. Until negative information was shared, many people were surprised. Currently, the male rapper's images and information are shared across fanpages and groups. Many people even visited his personal page and left mixed comments.

According to Article 174 of the Penal Code No. 100/2015/QH13 (amended and supplemented in 2017), the crime of fraud and appropriation is the act of appropriating another person's property by fraudulent means.

Fraudulent behavior can be when the offender uses deceptive tricks (such as lying, forging documents, providing false information) to make others trust and voluntarily hand over property to him, then appropriate that property.

Currently, the crime of fraud and appropriation of property is regulated with 4 penalty frames depending on the level of violation:

Frame 1: Non-custodial reform for up to 03 years or imprisonment from 06 months to 03 years for the act of using fraudulent tricks to appropriate another person's property worth from 02 - under 50 million VND < 02 million VND but falling into one of the following cases:

Having been administratively sanctioned for property appropriation but still violating;

Having been convicted of this crime or one of the crimes specified in Articles 168, 169, 170, 171, 172, 173, 175 and 290 of the 2015 Penal Code, not having had the criminal record cleared but continuing to commit the violation;

Adversely affecting security, order and social safety;

The property is the primary means of livelihood of the injured person and his or her family.

Frame 2: Imprisonment from 02 to 07 years for criminal acts falling into one of the following cases:

Organized;

Professional in nature;

Appropriation of property worth from 50 to under 200 million VND;

Dangerous recidivism;

Taking advantage of position, power or taking advantage of the name of an agency or organization;

Use cunning tricks.

Frame 3: Imprisonment from 07 to 15 years for criminal acts falling into one of the following cases:

Appropriation of property worth from 200 to under 500 million VND;

Taking advantage of natural disasters and epidemics.

Frame 4: Imprisonment from 12 years to 20 years or life imprisonment for crimes falling into one of the following cases:

Appropriation of property worth ≥500 million VND;

Taking advantage of war and emergency situations.

Additional penalties: Fine from 10 to 100 million VND, ban from holding positions, practicing a profession or doing certain jobs from 01 to 05 years or confiscation of part or all of the property.
