Without a splendid stage, no bright lights or lavish banquet, a special wedding took place right at the Intensive Care Unit, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City - a place where it seemed like there were only the sounds of ventilators and the struggle for life.
But in that harsh space, the love and sacred bond of a family made everyone present choke up.
The bride on the wedding day was Ms. NTL, the daughter who chose to hold the wedding ceremony earlier than planned so that her mother, who was being treated in the intensive care unit, could witness the most important moment in her daughterâs life. Her mother, who was battling a serious illness, did not have much time left. As her health gradually deteriorated, her greatest wish was to see her daughter settle down.
"My family planned to hold a wedding ceremony at the end of the year. But when I saw my mother's health getting worse day by day, I knew I couldn't wait any longer. We boldly asked the hospital for permission to hold a small, simple ceremony, just so my mother could witness the day I went to my husband's house," Ms. L emotionally shared.
Understanding this legitimate wish, the team of doctors, nurses and social workers at the Intensive Care Unit joined hands to support the family in organizing a short but solemn ceremony and ensuring absolute safety conditions for the patient. A few ribbons, a few small balloons, and the word "Love" simply decorated next to the hospital bed became the backdrop for the sacred moment of maternal love and an emotional wedding.
In a simple red ao dai, Ms. L bowed her head beside the hospital bed, holding her motherâs hand tightly. Although the mother was weak, she still opened her eyes to look at her child, smiling gently â a smile full of satisfaction. There was no wedding procession, no celebration party, no formalities, but that moment was enough for Ms. L â because she had her mother by her side, in the most sacred moment of her life.
"That day, my mother was rarely sober. She held my hand, looked at me for a long time, her eyes seemed to convey all her love, trust and final instructions. It was a wedding unlike any other, but to me, it was the most beautiful wedding. The photo of my mother looking at me radiantly, at peace - will forever be the most precious keepsake in my life," Ms. L choked up.
She also said that her family believes that the ceremony is a priceless spiritual gift for her mother - helping her to be more optimistic and steadfast in her journey to fight the disease. "I still believe that my mother will overcome it. And if I could choose again, I would still make the same decision. Just to hold my mother's hand, take a picture together, I am willing to do anything."
Witnessing that touching moment, many medical staff could not hide their emotions. Dr. Bui Thi Hanh Duyen - Head of the Intensive Care Unit, shared: "For a mother, seeing her child get married is a sacred thing. If that makes them feel more complete, then that is the profound human value that we always aim for. Medicine is not just about medicine and technology - sometimes, an act of understanding, a timely sharing is also an unexpectedly effective spiritual remedy."
Ms. Duyen emphasized that the Intensive Care Unit is where serious cases are treated, where life and death are sometimes just a few breaths apart. In that context, bringing positive moments of spirit to patients and their relatives is extremely important, because it is also part of the treatment and healing journey with compassion.
The story of a simple wedding in a hospital room is not only a touching act of filial piety by a child, but also a clear demonstration of the power of love and kindness. It transcends the boundaries of life and death, arouses compassion, and spreads profound human values in the medical profession.
That wedding may not have been held in a fancy restaurant, without an orchestra, without a large guest list. But in that small space, beside the hospital bed, amidst the sound of the ventilator and the anxious silence, a loving moment was marked â gentle, profound, and touching the hearts of anyone who has heard the story.
Married 9 wives at once, the man had no children with any of them, and asked for surrogacy for one reason. JLO17:33:35 30/10/2024Arthur O Urso's marriage caused a stir and attracted public attention. Many people criticized and said that polygamous marriages not only violated the law but also went against the values of life.
