After releasing the new MV, Jungkook (BTS) was suddenly accused by an American male tiktoker of "stealing" the idea from a song by "network phenomenon" So Y Tiet. The online community erupted into a fierce controversy surrounding this drama.
Recently, Jungkook (BTS) has released a solo music product called Seven in collaboration with the famous female rapper Latto. In particular, in the MV, there is also the appearance of Han So Hee - the actress who is very popular in Korea.
Immediately after its release, the song immediately achieved impressive achievements. The MV currently has 89 million views on YouTube. The male idol also surpassed Miley Cyrus to become the artist with the fastest song to surpass 100 million streams in Spotify history. Before that, he also made history when Seven became the fastest song to reach No.1 in 100 countries in iTunes history after only 2 and a half hours.
In addition, the song also created a trend when the chorus "Monday Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Seven days a week. Every Hour, every minute, every second , You know night after night I'll be lovin ' you right. Seven days a week" was continuously used on Tiktok. In which many artists, Vietnamese tiktoker also quickly "catch the trend".
However, with the above viral song, Jungkook was suddenly accused of stealing ideas from a Vietnamese tiktoker. Specifically, the account @jarredjermaine with more than 5 million followers specializing in music reviews posted a clip claiming that Jungkook "borrowed" the idea from So Y Tiet - A popular Vietnamese tiktoker.
In fact, the reason why the American Tiktoker questioned Jungkook stemmed from a short clip. In it, So Y Tiet is singing a song to count the days of the week in English. Although the melody sounds different, the lyrics easily remind others of the chorus in Jungkook's song Seven.
3 years ago, the Vietnamese cowboy - So Y Tiet suddenly became a network phenomenon when he uploaded the number-counting songs "One, Two, Three..." and counting the days of the week "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday..." on his social network accounts.
The impromptu clip of So Y Tiet was shared by many international famous stars such as Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa, Chris Brown, on her personal page. Rihanna, Cardi B also mentioned the name Soytiet on their stories on social networks.
Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber also covered this guy's song. In addition, many other famous DJs in the world have also renewed his counting videos on vibrant music. Even Soytiet's song counting numbers from 41 to 49 was used as a sample for rapper Wiz Khalifa's song "Number Song".
The English number-counting melody is "crazy" by many international artists, making the cowherd boy from Binh Dinh famous worldwide. Currently, his Tiktok channel has 4.2 million followers.
Last May, Soytiet continued to cause a fever when posting a dance cover video of the song "Making My Way" by Son Tung M-TP and was re-shared by the owner in an interesting way.
The fact that Jungkook's song "Seven" was compared with Soytiet's minor tune made many viewers surprised.
This information also caused a lot of opinions from netizens. Some people think that the song that counts the days of the week is quite popular, many people often sing like that when they sing, so it is not true to say that Jungkook borrowed the idea. However, there are also opinions that the two lines really have similarities and that anything is possible.
Most netizens believe that this Tiktoker creates comparison content for humorous purposes only. Because Soytiet's melody and Jungkook's song are completely different. It cannot be said that Jungkook "plagiarized" Soytiet while "Seven" is a complete song, with clear content and meaning. And Soytiet just counted the days of the week according to the melody impromptu, without meaning. Currently, the controversy surrounding this issue has not shown any signs of cooling down.
Not long ago, Jungkook (member of BTS) had an interview with Weverse magazine to share about his solo project called Seven. In it, the male idol admitted that working as a solo artist is different from working as a member of a group.
The male idol shared, "I have always been the youngest in BTS and now I release my own songs and have to work alone. I think the responsibility comes from having to interact with people and everything changes. There are so many decisions I have to make and I can't just say I don't know."
The 1997-born star also revealed that when he promotes with BTS, he can stand in the back and let the older members answer for him. However, when acting alone, he was forced to make his own decisions and this changed him even more.
"Sometimes I feel pressured in the moments when the staff are looking towards me. I feel more pressure than when I'm with the group," admitted Jungkook, "But I think the way I deal with it has changed a bit because my personality has also changed a lot."
