As soon as Jennie's solo confirmation announcement was announced on June 6, fans were not able to rejoice when they learned that Jennie's side had denied the news of a solo album release. Reportedly, the reason behind is related to BLACKPINK.
On the morning of March 31, News1 reported that K-pop idol Jennie (BLACKPINK) will release a solo album on June 6. "While focusing on the production of the album, she is also putting a lot of effort into planning her solo career after the release of the album," News1 wrote.
However, about 7 hours later, Jennie's side denied the information. A representative of Jennie's agency, ODDATELIER, said: "Jennie is trying to make a new song. However, the release date has not yet been discussed whether it will be an album or E.P."
In addition, Newsis reports that Jennie's ability to release a new song in the first half of this year is unlikely. Because a few days ago, YG Entertainment had a change in the board structure and announced plans related to BLACKPINK's activities to be concretized this year. So coordination on this issue will likely be necessary.
Earlier on March 29, YG Entertainment held a shareholders' meeting and announced that it had approved its decision to switch to a single CEO system. More specifically, the current CEO is Mr. Yang Min Seok, the younger brother of founder/executive producer Yang Hyun Seok. In addition, YG also appointed outside director Kim Dong Hyun as the new chairman of the board.
CEO Yang Min Seok said, "This board's decision will play an important role in strengthening the company's innovation capabilities and global competitiveness."
In the same announcement, YG released a statement regarding BLACKPINK, saying, "We will realize the activities of BLACKPINK, who signed a group activity contract last December."
Jennie's upcoming album will mark BLACKPINK's first solo comeback after leaving YG. This is also Jennie's first music-related project after founding her own company OA (ODDATELIER).
Earlier on March 19, ODDATELIER's agency announced that Jennie declined an invitation to attend the show My name is Gabriel. More specifically, Jennie will not appear in the planned cast including Park Bo Gum, Ji Chang Wook, etc.
To further clarify this decision, the company was also quick to state that Jennie was focused on preparing for her solo album and would not be participating in any variety shows. Currently, Jennie's solo album is extremely interested when she has been seen in the famous studio and revealed to collaborate with the Music Producer of Rihanna, Beyoncé, Drake ... for the new album.
Jennie debuted as a Blackpink member in August 2016 and has emerged as a global star through group activities.
In November 2018, Jennie released a solo single titled SOLO and a special solo single â You & Me in October 2023 to showcase her personal musical colours as well as establish herself as a top singer. This is why Jennie's upcoming album is making fans even more.
She also featured on the soundtrack "The Idol" â "One of the Girls" with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, released in 2023. "One of the Girls" peaked at number 51 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and has now spent 13 weeks on the chart.
In early March, Jennie received attention when she featured in the song "Slow Motion" by American artist Matt Champion.
