Izna: Originated from I-Land 2, "plagiarized" from NewJeans to aespa, Teddy couldn't save her

Izna is known as a new gir.l group formed through the Mnet survival show I-LAND2, attracting a lot of attention thanks to being created by "music wizard" Teddy Park of The Black Label.

The group is managed by WAKEONE Entertainment and consists of 7 members. Of which, 5 members were voted by the audience: Jungeun, Jeemin, Jiyoon, Koko, Sarang and 2 members were chosen by the producer: Mai, Saebi.

Japanese "rookie" Mai, born on October 28, 2004, joined WAKEONE Entertainment in 2022. After 2 years of training, she participated in her first reality TV show, I-Land 2, and was given the opportunity by the producers to become a part of Izna. Her core strengths are rapping and dancing.

Also from Japan like Mai, Koko was born on November 14, 2006 and became an artist under WakeOne Entertainment in 2024, before joining I-Land 2. Her name was first announced as part of the Izna lineup.

Kpop "rookie" Bang Jeemin, born on May 8, 2005, became famous when he appeared in the survival show of the gir.l group Belift Lab RU Next. But unfortunately, he ranked 4th in the final night, making him ineligible to join the group.

Jeemin then joined Mnet's I-Land 2 as one of the older contestants. The idol does not have an active Instagram account, but fans speculate that the members will help her open one closer to her debut.

Yoon Jiyoon was born on July 14, 2005, and joined WAKEONE Entertainment in 2024. A few months later, the 19-year-old rookie won the opportunity to participate in Mnet's I-Land 2. Before that, she trained under YG's subsidiary The Black Label.

Ryu Sarang, born on April 18, 2007, was one of the contestants who was almost eliminated from I-Land 2 but was saved and entered the finals. She joined WakeOne in 2024 and participated in Mnet's I-Land 2 and achieved the fifth highest score in the finals.

Sarang's MBTI type is INFP, and her core strength is visual. Although the female idol did not show much of her rapping skills during the competition, she showed that she is also good at rapping in the final stage. Therefore, she could be a candidate for the top rapper position in Izna.

Mnet I-Land 2's leader - Choi Jungeun born August 4, 2007 joined WakeOne Entertainment in 2020. This 17-year-old "rookie" participated in Mnet's reality show Cap-Teen before getting the chance to shine on I-Land. Her MBTI personality type is ISFJ and her strongest point is her singing voice.

Jeong Saebi, born on January 22, 2008, was a surprise addition to the winning lineup of I-Land 2. She was not selected as one of the first six, but became the seventh member of the debut group. She is also the youngest member of Izna.

The 16-year-old rookie has been training under WAKEONE Entertainment for 4 years. Her MBTI type is ENFP and she has shown her all-round skills throughout I-Land 2. Fans speculate that she will be the center alongside Jeemin in Izna.

On July 28, 2024, Izna had their first performance as a group at KCON LA. Their name comes from the words "Anytime, Anywhere, Anything", which is meant to convey confidence and assurance. However, the group's debut was not smooth due to suspicions of "plagiarism".

Accordingly, although not officially released, from the demo, the audience has recognized many similarities in the design of Izna's N/a album with the OMG album released by NewJeans in 2023. On November 25, Izna officially debuted with the title song "IZNA", produced and composed by "music wizard" Teddy. The song attracted attention with its distinctive hip hop style, catchy melody and carefully invested MV images.

However, it is still the old formula with empty lyrics, constantly repeating the lyrics "That's me, That's me, That's me" or "Who dat gir.l is". Perhaps that is why "IZNA" only stopped at 97th place on Bugs and 98th place on Genie, and did not even enter the Melon top 100. This not-so-good achievement clearly reflects the public's disappointment with the group's debut song.
