Looking at the current successes of "beating women" Hue Anh Hong, few people know that she has experienced so much bitterness and suffering in life behind the camera.
Poor childhood had to beg for food
Hue Anh Hong was born in 1960 in Hong Kong, her family was originally a descendant of the eight eras of the Manchu Dynasty, her father was a boss in Huijiazhuang, Shandong province. However, due to falling into poor circumstances, Hue Anh Hong's family moved to Hong Kong and brought eight boxes of gold bars with them.
When they arrived in Hong Kong, they bought a house and started a business. But unexpectedly, Hue Anh Hong's father gradually developed a gambling addiction, and the family career was therefore once again in a tragic situation. Later, after Hue Anh Hong was born, the Hue family had to move to a small wooden house on the mountain to live.
Burdened by her father's growing gambling debts, Hue's siblings were sent to the troupe to learn martial arts, while she and her mother became the economic breadwinners of the family.
When it was most difficult, Hue Anh Hong had to follow her mother to pick up leftovers from restaurants to eat, and even ran to Uyen Tu pier to beg along the way or hold back American soldiers selling chewing gum. Sometimes, for months, she and her mother both slept at the top of the street and lived through the day. She was only 3 years old then.
Hue Anh Hong's days of begging lasted for 10 years. During that time, she was soon forced to learn to pay attention to the faces and words of others so that she could beg for alms, because if she was not careful, she would be severely beaten.
Recalling those days, Hue Anh Hong once smiled wryly: "Even when I went to beg for food, I was also a big sister".
The actress once recalled: "When I was selling chewing gum at the pier, there was a very handsome Western-American marine male, only about 18 or 19 years old. He bought me gum every day. The night before. when he went to the battlefield to fight, he asked me how to say 'I love you'. I taught him: Wo ai ni. The navy guy looked at me and smiled and said: Wo ai ni, too".
"When I was 40 years old, I still thought that if that navy guy came back to me, I would cry and kiss him and say I love you to him again. If he proposed, I would marry him. immediately," the actress confided.
But that marine did not return in the end. This story is probably a torment and belongs to Hue Anh Hong's gloomy time, so she remembers it until later.
From the dancer to the "woman" of the screen
At the age of 13, Hue Anh Hong happened to see that the dance hall was recruiting, so she wanted to try to work here. That year, she and her teacher took dance lessons every day in the disco. Less than 2 months after learning dance, Hue Anh Hong started performing on stage.
Despite being in a complex and bustling environment like a discotheque, Hue Anh Hong always reminds herself to keep herself clean, not to gamble, drink alcohol, especially not to touch banned substances.
A year later, Hue Ah Hong met the first gentleman of her life, Truong Triet, the owner of Thieu Thi Cinema. Truong Tri chose her to play the role of Mu Nian Ci in the work The Condor Heroes. The film helped her from an unknown dancer gradually to the attention of the public.
The 1980s was the golden age of Hue Anh Hong, she collaborated with many famous directors and starred in many famous works. Becoming a famous actress of the Hong Kong entertainment industry and having such success is not only thanks to the help of the nobles, but also thanks to her own relentless efforts and natural talent.
Hue Anh Hong is honored to become the only "woman" to be crowned Queen of Hong Kong. In 1982, thanks to the film Elder, she won the Best Actress award at the first Golden Statue Film Festival. And in 2010, she continued to win the 29th post-Kim Tuong Photo with the movie Tam Ma. In 2017, the film Lucky I once again helped her win the second prize at the 36th Hong Kong Golden Statue Film Festival.
The bitterness behind the light
As a martial arts actor, during the filming process, it is inevitable to get injured. With the image of "beating women" built from the beginning, Hue Anh Hong had to make a lot of sacrifices because the beating scenes almost all left significant injuries.
Once in a scene, Hue Anh Hong suffered more than 10 punches in the stomach, then she couldn't stand it anymore, so she ran out and vomited. After vomiting, she went back to continue doing those scenes. In another time, Hue Anh Hong jumped from a height but accidentally fell and stretched her ligaments, but the next day she continued to go to the studio to work.
For Hue Anh Hong, because she suffered so much in her childhood, she thinks this little suffering is nothing. She told herself that it was only through perseverance and her family's fate that she could change: "I can't give up. Because if I don't get over this barrier, I won't have it. I have to become a star so that my family can have a better life."
Depression due to pressure
His career was rising like a kite in the wind, but Hue Anh Hong later gradually disappeared from the screen. The reason is that mainstream action movies become less popular, causing the status of martial arts actors to decline rapidly.
At this time, Hue Anh Hong was at a young age, in addition, she also suffered many injuries from acting in action movies. So when she switched to other movie genres, she was reduced from the lead actress to only supporting female roles, even having to play cameos.
In order to change the masculine image of "beating women" that has been associated with her since the beginning and in order to find romantic movie scripts, Hue Anh Hong accepted to take nude photos for Playboy magazine to aim at her image. seductive femininity. However, unlike her thoughts, right after the magazine was published, Hue Anh Hong was severely criticized, causing her to suffer from depression for a long time.
What is more frightening is that at this time, Hue Anh Hong was too depressed and thought that death was violently ostracized. Filming is her lifelong career, if not accepted by the audience, Hue Anh Hong thinks that this life has no meaning at all.
So depressed that Hue Anh Hong wrote a suicide note and swallowed more than 100 pills to commit suicide. Fortunately, her family found her in time, but at this time she was unconscious.
In order not to be disturbed by reporters, the family contacted the doctor by phone. According to the doctor's instructions, Hue Anh Hong was given water in the bathroom to wash her stomach and give first aid. Eight hours later, she finally opened her eyes, looking at her crying mother with red eyes, making her feel extremely regretful.
Later, when recalling the incident in the past, Hue Anh Hong admitted that she was extremely regretful when thinking about suicide. "I've never done anything wrong, except to commit suicide, which was the dumbest decision I've ever made in my life," she said.
Find the light again
After escaping from the wings of death, Hue Anh Hong participated in psychological treatment, not only that, she also attended English classes, studied feng shui and psychology. In 2009, she finally received an offer for the female lead role in the movie Heart Ghost.
Thanks to the success of the film and her acting talent, a year later, she won the Golden Statue Award for the Best Actress category, this is the second time she won the post-Kim Tuong photo award. At the award ceremony, Hue Anh Hong cried and said: "For the past 10 years, I don't know why I fell into the abyss or pushed myself into a dead end, but I am very lucky to have a good family."
Currently, at the age of 62, Hue Anh Hong is still going back and forth. And despite her advanced age, the actress is still determined to pursue the image of "beating women". She once stated that she would still stick to the profession until her last breath. At the age of sixty, she is still young and strong like a young woman in her twenties, not only that, but she also knows how to maintain a slim figure that everyone admires.
At the current U70 age, Hue Anh Hong is happy to have helped herself and her family change their fortunes. Most recently, she participated in Vu Chinh's movie "During the House of the Mother", playing a supporting role but still having a lot of fun.
