H'Hen Nie declares war on Mr Nawat, a series of beauties unite for national pride

On March 14, the beauty fan community was surprised to discover that a series of beauty queens who represented Vietnam at Miss Universe such as H'Hen Nie, Khanh Van, Kim Duyen, and Ngoc Chau simultaneously deleted their titles related to this contest on their Instagram bios.

Up to now, Vietnamese representatives who have participated in Miss Universe have kept their titles in their personal introductions as an important milestone in their careers. For example, H'Hen Nie - Top 5 Miss Universe 2018, Khanh Van - Miss Universe Vietnam 2020, Kim Duyen - Miss Universe Vietnam 2021, Ngoc Chau - Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 have all removed the Miss Universe title from their personal introductions. Notably, H'Hen Nie also unfollowed the Miss Universe account, a move that made many people question the real reason behind it.

Along with the changes in the personal pages of the Uni beauty queens, Mr. Tran Viet Bao Hoang - President of the Miss Cosmo contest also had a post full of hidden meanings. On his personal Instagram, the President of Miss Cosmo emphasized:

"Thank you to the 230,000 people (and counting on other platforms) who have been with Miss Cosmo since the beginning. I truly believe that this number will continue to grow as the world changes, and audiences today are looking for platforms and content that provide real value, inspire, motivate and have a positive impact. These are the values that define us and why Miss Cosmo International was created. And this will never change!"

The time when the beauty queens simultaneously removed information related to Miss Universe coincided with the time when Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil - President of Miss Grand International, made a controversial statement at a press conference.

Mr. Nawat declared that apart from Miss Universe and Miss Grand International, other beauty pageants are just imitations and copies. Not only that, he also emphasized that he would declare war on other pageants and affirmed that Miss Universe and Miss Grand International are the two most prestigious pageants at present.

These statements immediately met with backlash from global beauty fans, especially when he had just purchased the copyright to organize Miss Universe Thailand. Many people believe that each contest honors its own values, and Mr. Nawat's public challenge and view of other contests as "archrivals" goes against the criteria and mission that a beauty contest was created for.

Previously, Mr. Nawat confirmed that contestants who participated in the Miss Cosmo contest were banned from participating in Miss Universe Thailand and Miss Grand Thailand.

In addition, contestants who have participated in competitions organized by TPN Global (the former copyright holder of Miss Universe Thailand), including Miss Thailand and Miss Global, are also not allowed to participate in Miss Universe Thailand.

"If you fail at Miss Grand International, you can still participate in Miss Universe Thailand, but if you fail at Miss Universe Thailand, you cannot participate in Miss Grand International anymore," said Mr. Nawat.

Previously, Nawat banned the beauties who had won titles in his contests from registering for other beauty pageants. Many beauties had their crowns stripped by Nawat for registering for other contests. In addition to a series of strict regulations, Mr. Nawat also made many business requirements for the contestants participating in his contests.

Miss Cosmo was established by UNIMedia in August 2023, after the unit lost the right to organize Miss Universe Vietnam. This is an international beauty pageant, with the first season taking place in October 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The organizers affirmed that Miss Cosmo is a completely independent brand, not copied or related to any other contest. The goal of this contest is to expand the influence of Vietnamese beauty on the international arena, not a replacement version of Miss Universe.
