Singer Don Ho, whose real name is Ho Manh Dung, was born in 1962 in Saigon in a family of North Vietnamese origin in 1954 (father from Thanh Hoa, mother from Nam Dinh). Don Ho is the 4th child in the family, with 2 brothers, 1 sister and 1 younger brother.

When he was a child, Don Ho used to go to classical guitar lessons following the trend of his friends, but after only a few sessions, he got bored, then switched to violin but did not get there. Finally, he switched to painting and felt that he had a talent for painting, since then he has been attached to this field until he came to the US.

After 1975, Don Ho's family fell into an extremely difficult situation. After much preparation, the whole Don Ho family left Vietnam together. But unfortunately all the trips failed, each time how much accumulated money was swept away. In the end, they decided to separate.

At the end of 1980, Don Ho and his step-brother named Lan departed from Ca Mau, on a small boat bound for Thailand. After a few days of sailing, the ship with the two brothers was "questioned" by the pirates more than 30 times, once Don Ho was carried up and thrown into the deep, black sea, had to swim back to the boat by himself. was torn apart. Fortunately, two years ago, he was taught to swim by his father, so he was able to survive in the middle of the sea.

To this day, he is still active in the arts. It can be seen that he is one of the most successful overseas singers in the art world. He said that many singers of his time no longer sing, but Don Ho is still active and has many shows to sing.

On the occasion of the New Year, the male singer sang 5 shows in 5 days continuously, every weekend he was expensive. With a passion for art, I also work hard. During the last 2 years of his studies at College, he began to make many artistic contributions to the school's arts with a group of 4 close friends, including Mai Khanh and writer Nhat Tien.

Thanks to those active activities, Don Ho was elected president of the Vietnamese Student Association at Orange Coast College in 1985, also the last year he studied here.

When he sang, he still had to do many different jobs to make ends meet because singing at that time was not enough for his daily needs.

An important turning point in Don Ho's singing career was then he joined the band Bolero by musician Duy Hanh. Realizing that he was still quite incompetent, he took additional vocal classes.

Thanks to hard practice, and experience when singing in the band Bolero, the male singer has the opportunity to go further in his career. In the early 1990s, Bolero band was invited by Thuy Nga center to appear on the program Paris By Night 12 with the theme revolving around young music medleys.

In the band's performance, Don Ho performed 2 songs "Em Beautiful As Dream" and "Black Magic Woman". After the first appearance on that video, Don Ho attracted attention and was noticed by Thuy Nga center and officially invited to cooperate from Paris By Night 15 in 1992.
