Thai singer dies at ag.e 20 after getting a massage, netizens grieve

According to the Bangkok Post, Ping Chayada died on the morning of December 8 in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Udon Thani (Thailand). The cause may be related to a series of previous massage therapies.

At the funeral of singer Ping Chayada, her mother Chantakarn choked with grief over the loss of her daughter, who was also the breadwinner of the family. She used to work as a masseuse, so Chayada had asked her mother for help with her treatment.

However, because she had just undergone surgery and could not perform massage movements herself, Chayada decided to find an outside massage facility.

Ms Chantakarn said: "Before she passed away, my daughter often had pain in her neck, shoulders and nape. She asked me to help her but I couldn't because my health had not recovered. After the massage, she texted me, saying that her hands were numb and weak.

I immediately asked if the staff had broken my son's neck, because with my experience in the profession, I clearly understood the risks of this operation. My son replied that they had broken his neck, not just once but twice."

Regarding neck twisting, Ms. Chantakarn said: "I know the dangerous areas on the body. If the neck bon.e is dislocated, the consequences can be life-threatening. I hope the massage establishment owner and related staff will be held responsible."

Thairath newspaper reported that Chayada also shared on her personal page about a "horrifying experience" when she went to a massage facility in Udon Thani. She said she sought this therapy with the hope of reducing neck and shoulder pain, but the results were completely opposite to her expectations.

In her post, the singer described: "I went for a massage to get better, but the result was a misaligned cervical spine and a pinched nerve. My arms were twitching constantly, itching and numbness from head to toe, my body was so weak that I couldn't lift anything.

I couldn't even dress myself. The pain was all over my body, so bad that I was convulsing and couldn't do anything. It was a horrible experience for a 20-year-old gir.l."

After the first massage, Chayada began to feel numbness in her arm. However, she returned to the facility for a second session, but this time the condition was more severe as she was in severe pain and could not lie flat on her back.

The singer then returned for a third visit, describing a "heavy" masseuse who left her with swelling and bruising all over her body. Although Ping Chayada continued to take painkillers, the symptoms did not improve. Her condition continued to worsen.

Chayada began to feel pain in her abdomen and chest, her whole body was paralyzed, her body weakened to the point of only being able to function at half its capacity.

On November 18, Chayada posted a final status, saying she could not reply to messages or comments from people because she was bedridden and unable to take care of herself.

At Phibun Rak District Hospital (Udon Thani Province), after taking an X-ray, doctors discovered that Ping's cervical vertebrae were dislocated. She was transferred to another hospital for re-examination, and the results continued to confirm that her cervical vertebrae were dislocated.

She was then transferred back to Udon Thani Central Hospital for treatment. However, Ping’s condition worsened, leaving her bedridden and she died on the morning of December 8. The cause was determined to be cerebral edema, complications possibly related to the previous series of massage treatments.

After nearly a month of being bedridden, Chayada could not survive. Her passing not only left behind a great deal of grief but also caused a wave of concern in Thailand about the safety of neck and shoulder massage methods.

Public opinion is now raising big questions about the responsibility and techniques of massage establishments, while calling for increased awareness of the potential risks from these therapies.
