Recently, Britney Spears and her lawyer attended an online court hearing about her guardianship. This is the first time the 39-year-old pop star has spoken directly in court, speaking her mind instead of through a lawyer or through a psychiatrist's assessment. The trial is also open to the public (revealing the recording) so that the media can report and the public know Britney's true voice.
Britney's share in court shocked because of the brutal reality that she had to endure for many years under the guardianship of her father. It is known that Mr. Jamie Spears has been appointed by the court to be Britney's guardian since 2008 after she suffered a severe mental crisis.
Britney told Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny: "I just want my life back. It's been 13 years, that's more than enough. It's been a long time since I've owned my money. (US$60 million) "My wish and dream is that all of this will end without inquiry. I don't want to sit around for hours with people judging me like they did me before, because that just makes me feel worse.
I honestly want to sue my family, completely honest ma'am. I also wanted to be able to share my story with the world and make it public what they did to me, instead of hiding and keeping it a secret to benefit all of them."
Britney said she felt "like a slave" to her biological father. She lied to fans that she was "happy" but she wasn't.
"Your Honor, I am not here to be a slave to anyone. When I told the world that I was fine and happy, it was a complete lie. I thought maybe I said enough because I said enough. because I was always rejected. I was shocked and traumatized. I tried to lie until I could tell the truth. And now I am telling the truth: I am not happy. I can't sleep. I'm so angry, depressed. I cry every day."
The Grammy Award-winning star said: "He likes the control he's entitled to have over me, 100%, 1000%. I really believe this guardianship is abuse. They did a great job of exploiting it. My father and anyone involved in this conservatorship, including my manager... they should be jailed."
Britney emphasized that she wanted to have a baby but was not allowed: "I can't have children because I have an IUD. They don't allow me to go to the doctor to have it removed. I want to get married and have a baby. They told me that under guardianship, I couldn't get married or have children. I felt helpless, bullied, abandoned and alone."
The former X Factor judge told the court she had to take lithium, a drug commonly used to treat bipolar disorder, without her consent. "It's a powerful drug," says Britney. "You can have a mental breakdown if you take it for longer than five months. I felt intoxicated but couldn't even talk to my mom or dad about anything. I was so scared."
Britney criticizes family members for letting her father continue to control her finances and life. "My family didn't do anything to help me. My father was the only one who gave me orders. Everyone else didn't say anything," Britney said.
The pop icon isn't happy about the amount of therapy sessions she's forced to attend, especially since she doesn't want to be photographed when she attends therapy sessions. "I want to see a therapist once a week, not twice a week, and I want to see a doctor at my home," she says. "I knew I needed small therapeutic steps to gradually improve."
"I apologize for my ignorance, but I didn't know I could do it," she said. "I was embarrassed and dismayed by what I've been through. That's the main reason why I don't say everything publicly. I don't think anyone will believe me."
Notably, during the trial, Britney's fans stood outside the court to support her. The fan's Free Britney movement that has spread strongly since 2019 has inspired Britney to fight against her father's guardianship.
To support the singer, her boyfriend Sam Asghari posted a photo wearing a white T-shirt with the prominent words #FreeBritney on her personal page. This is the name of the movement to free Britney Spears from guardianship started by the fan community. The 27-year-old model also attached a lion emoji - his nickname for Britney.
Sam was not allowed to appear in Britney Spears' online trial, but from afar, he still expressed his full support for her. According to Pagesix, Sam has always supported Britney since they started dating in 2016. "Sam is a huge support for Britney. He helps Britney gain confidence and encourages her to believe in good things to come." source said. "Sam has been following the #FreeBritney movement online for a while and has always told Britney how much she is loved and supported by her fans."
In an interview earlier this year with People, Sam Asghari also expressed his support for Britney and wished her girlfriend a free and happy future. He also hopes to get married and have children with the Toxic voice. Sam once called Britney's father an "old bastard" for his harsh control over his daughter's life.
