In the past few days, BLACKPINK has been criticized for the story that K-pop concert ticket prices have skyrocketed, making fans unable to pay. Besides, the group was also suddenly brought to the limelight when they were surpassed by aespa, setting a record.
According to media outlet MGR Online, the average price of K-pop concert tickets in Thailand is about 5,270 baht (about 3.6 million VND). Concert tickets are up nearly 20% since pre-pandemic 2019 and about 60% from 2013.
Previously, the most expensive ticket for a K-Pop concert was about 4.1 million VND and the cheapest was 728,000 VND. However, the current ticket prices are increasing too fast for K-Pop fans in Thailand to pay, such as VIP tickets costing about 10.3 million VND for upcoming concerts of K-pop girl groups. BLACKPINK at Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok - the largest stadium in Thailand - on May 27-28.
Not only BLACKPINK's concert, but also Stray Kids' concerts are too expensive. According to fans, the ticket price for one night of the group is nearly 6 million VND. Many fans have even petitioned the Consumer Protection Agency about the issue.
However, the agency said the government cannot control prices: "Currently, we do not have any laws to regulate ticket prices for concerts. Prices are set based on consensus among sellers. and consumers".
As for the reason for the price increase, sponsors used to pay about 70% of the cost of the shows 10 years ago, but this number has dropped to 30% so the ticket price has been increased.
The COVID-19 pandemic is known as one of the main causes of price increases. The global health crisis has made concerts and live performances nearly impossible over the past few years. Many management units and their employees fell into debt and in some cases had to leave the entertainment industry. Although concerts have returned, the organizers say they have to increase ticket prices to create the same quality performances as before.
Besides, BLACKPINK has also recently been constantly called out and "caught" by fans of the aespa group when this group has officially surpassed BLACKPINK to break the album sales record. In this comeback, aespa enters a new chapter in a story that is linked to the virtual reality version. With the theme "return to the real world", aespa brings a series of songs with novel colors and diverse concepts for each music video.
Although only just aired, but aespa quickly surpassed BLACKPINK, breaking sales records with the mini-album MY WORLD. According to the latest update, aespa's new album recorded 1,192,976 copies sold even though the first 24 hours are not over, and the number is increasing constantly.
This rapid achievement helps 4 SM girls become the girl group with the highest first-day album sales in Hanteo history. This record was previously held by Born Pink - BLACKPINK and recently LE SSERAFIM replaced it with Unforgiven. Aespa's pre-orders also surpassed 1.8 million copies, making it the second highest pre-ordered album among K-pop girl groups.
Even though they were suddenly compared, many BLACKPINK fans defended that the record was set to be broken. Besides, BLACKPINK currently has too many uncountable records, so comparing one achievement is quite lame.
