BLACKPINK sweeps Asia but still lags TWICE at home. However, the female idol who "rules" Korea is a different name!
In the Kpop music industry, every year there are many girl groups from all kinds of companies, big and small. Korean audiences are very fond of female idols, but the number of artists is too large and the market is not wide enough, so not everyone can find the opportunity to shine equally.
During the 12 years from 2010 to 2021, the fluctuations in the popularity of female idols in the Korean market are clearly shown through searches on YouTube Korea. If you look at the top 5 most searched female artists on YouTube over the past 12 years, it can be seen that although each year has different names "going up, going down", IU is still "everyone's idol". and has a constant popularity with time.
2010
This is the year MissA debuted, but the girls immediately joined the top 5 most sought-after female artists, along with famous names like SNSD, KARA, IU, T-ARA. In particular, SNSD claimed to be late thanks to 2 extremely successful super hits at that time, Oh! and Run Devil Run.
Specifically, at the top of the 2020 chart is SNSD. Followed by KARA and IU. 4th place belongs to T-ARA and Miss A, respectively.
2011
2011 continues to be a successful year for the "national girl group" SNSD. Along with the release of the hit "The Boys", the golden girlgroup of SM also began to transform into a more mature and luxurious image. In addition, 2NE1 also had an impressive rise to 3rd place.
Specifically, at the top of the chart in 2021 is still SNSD. Followed by IU and 2NE1. 4th place belongs to T-ARA and SISTAR, respectively.
Year 2012
Another year without much change in the popularity of female idols. SISTAR promoted thanks to the title of "summer queen", while T-ARA dropped to the top 5 because of the scandal.
Specifically, first place still calls SNSD's name. In turn are: IU, 2NE1, SISTAR and T-ARA.
2013
This is the time when both Girls Day and APINK rose strongly after many years of debut. If Girls Day made a mark thanks to Expectation, APINK was super hot with the hit NoNoNo. 2013 was also the time when SNSD ended the domination streak for 4 consecutive years.
The chart has not changed much: SNSD is still first. Followed by IU, APINK, Girls Day, and SISTAR.
Year 2014
From 1st place, SNSD dropped straight to 5th place in the top most popular girl group in Korea. APINK achieved great success thanks to 2 super hits Mr. Chu and LUV, became the most sought after girl group in 2014.
Specifically, SNSD is "sadly" in 5th place, above SNSD is AOA. 3, 2, 1 positions respectively called Girl's Day, IU and APINK.
2015
APINK's influence lasted until the end of 2015, although the group's later music products were no longer as well received as before. On the other hand, EXID made a spectacular comeback thanks to Hani's divine fancam, and AOA rose to the top thanks to the great success of the song "Heart Attack".
Specifically, ranked from 1 to 5 are: APINK, IU, SNSD, EXID and AOA respectively.
2016
With the birth of TWICE, the girl group field of the Kpop industry has turned to a new page. The terrible virality of 2 super hits Cheer Up and TT in the same year has helped TWICE achieve a terrible position that no one can beat. In addition, the top 5 most searched female artists on YouTube Korea also welcomed many new names including IOI, MAMAMOO, and G-FRIEND.
Specifically, at the top of the 2016 chart is TWICE. Followed by IOI and MAMAMOO. The 4.5th place belongs to IU and G-FRIEND, respectively.
2017
After a shocking debut, BLACKPINK entered the list for the first time in 4th place. Red Velvet also "jumped" to No.3 thanks to the success of the song Russian Roulette. This is considered the beginning of the brilliant golden age of Kpop Gen 3 girl groups, and the beginning of the "tripod" TWICE - BLACKPINK - Red Velvet.
Specifically, the first place still calls TWICE's name. In turn are: IU, Red Velvet, BLACKPINK and MAMAMOO.
2018
2018 was a great year for TWICE. The group released consecutive hits What Is Love?, Dance The Night Away, YES Or YES and affirmed their unrivaled level on the Kpop race.
The 2018 chart has not changed compared to 2017.
2019
Compared to 2018, TWICE started to show signs of decline in popularity but still managed to compete for 1st place on YouTube Korea's chart. Meanwhile, IZ * ONE appeared and pushed Red Velvet to the bottom of the list.
Specifically, TWICE is still leading. Followed by IU, IZ*ONE, BLACKPINK and finally Red Velvet.
Year 2020
Thanks to the super hit How You Like That, BLACKPINK crushed TWICE to become the hottest girl group in Korea in 2020. However, the group still could not surpass IU to win first place. "Youth hymn" eight (featuring BTS's Suga) became one of IU's most popular Korean hits.
The specific rankings are as follows:
5th place: OH MY GIRL
4th place: IZ*ONE
3rd place: TWICE
2nd place: BLACKPINK
1st place: IU
Year 2021
The great success of the mega hit Next Level has put rookie aespa in the "common tray" with all of the cult seniors IU, BLACKPINK, TWICE. The top 3 in 2021 is no different from 2020, IU is still the "on top" name. Thus, up to this point, BLACKPINK has never won 1st place despite sweeping across Asia and the West.
Specifically, IU topped the 2021 chart. BLACKPINK sadly holds the 2nd place. Next is TWICE, aespa, and OH MY GIRL.
It can be said that IU is a rare case of Kpop. No one can know what is the limit of IU when she constantly "surpasses herself" of the old year. For 12 consecutive years, IU has never left the Top 5 female artists chart most favored by Korean audiences, even reaching first place for 2 years in a row when she has entered the 12th and 13th years of her career.
aespa is so "smack" still "stirring" TWICE, Red Velvet in terms of MV likes, where is BLACKPINK? Hoàng Phúc15:12:22 14/01/2022The list of 10 Kpop girl groups with the highest average MV likes on YouTube is surprising. When it comes to the popularity and charisma of a K-pop group, YouTube is often one of the most effective metrics. Normally, the audience will rely on views to evaluate a music product...
