Artist Vu Linh belongs to the Golden Generation of Vietnamese Cai Luong theater. His real name is Vo Van Ngoan, born in 1958 in Saigon, comes from a poor family, and his education was unfinished. At the ag.e of 13, he studied singing at Van Phat school, then switched to studying traditional singing with teacher Van Vi. In 1972, he joined the Dong Au Hoa The He troupe, touring the provinces. After a while, he sang for the Hoa Anh Dao Kim Chuong troupe, and was accepted as a disciple by artists Dieu Hien and Truong Anh Loan. Later, he also studied with artists Minh To and Thanh Tong to further perfect his art of singing and performing traditional opera.

In 1981, he returned to the city, first appearing on the stage of Minh To and Huynh Long troupes. In 1988, he collaborated with Tran Huu Trang 2 Opera House. From here, Vu Linh truly stepped onto the stage of glory after more than 15 years of working for provincial troupes.

In the 1990s, Vu Linh collaborated with Tai Linh to become a "childhood sweetheart" artist couple, admired by a wide audience for their harmonious singing and acting.
