The Lunar New Year is a communication day of the year for the Vietnamese people. Although it is not a big Tet like the traditional Tet, its meaning and importance are not small.

The Lunar New Year, also known as the Pest Control Festival, is a fairly important day in Vietnamese customs. The Lunar New Year in 2024 falls on Monday, May 5, 2024 of the lunar calendar (i.e. June 10, 2024 of the solar calendar). According to the concept, on this day, people will celebrate the Lunar New Year with the desire to destroy pests that harm crops, hoping for a good harvest.

The Lunar New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, is held at the time of the Horse, on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month every year. This is a traditional Tet day in some East Asian countries such as Vietnam, North Korea, Taiwan, Japan and China.

The ancients believed that the human digestive system often had harmful parasites that could not always be killed. Only on May 5th, these parasites often rise and this is the time for people to eat sour and astringent foods to get rid of them.

Feng shui expert Nguyen Song Ha suggests the dos and don'ts of the Lunar New Year. According to traditional belief, it is possible to kill pests by eating food, fruits, and glutinous wine on May 5. Northern people often kill pests as soon as they wake up early in the morning and kill pests with food, especially with glutinous wine, ash cakes, fruits, etc.

For children: Wake up early in the morning when the child is still in bed, feed the child fruits, some glutinous wine, boiled eggs, then go to brush their teeth and wash their face, wash their limbs.

For adults: In the morning, you must rinse your mouth 3 times to clean the pests, then eat a boiled duck egg, drink some wine (or eat a bowl of glutinous wine) for the drunken bugs, then eat fruit for the bugs that are gone.

Some people choose to bathe in leaf water from nature on May 5 to kill pests. This is done after eating glutinous wine. Leaves such as: coriander leaves, perilla, marjoram, bamboo leaves... will be boiled, cooled and then used for bathing. The ancients said that bathing in coriander leaves to sweat out, has a pleasant and fragrant feeling of pleasure, makes people excited.

The Lunar New Year is a summer day, so the weather is quite hot. The elderly and young often boil leaves such as grapefruit, coriander, perilla, marjoram, lemongrass, bamboo... to take a bath and sauna to prevent colds. In particular, women also wash their hair, wishing to have black, silky, long hair.

According to feng shui expert Nguyen Song Ha, some things to abstain from on the day of the Lunar New Year are as follows. In Chinese, footwear is homophonic with the word "ta", which means evil qi. On weekdays and especially on the day of the Lunar New Year, leaving shoes incorrect, throwing them away in a mess is easy to attract evil spirits.

On this day, if the homeowner goes far away, avoid buying items with strange shapes and unknown origins. This will help you avoid bringing more evil qi home. If you leave on this day, you should stay away from hospitals, funerals, gloomy places... Because these places are too heavy with yin qi, easily susceptible to diseases and evil qi.

Losing money and silver on this day means losing your family's fortune. So wherever you go, keep your wallet very carefully, don't neglect it. Before the day of the Lunar New Year, from the 4th day of the 5th lunar calendar, whoever is in charge of the incense burning ceremony needs to keep the body clean, do not eat animals such as: carp, dog meat, snake meat, cat meat, baba, turtle, baba, snake wine, tiger grass wine, shrimp paste, etc shrimp paste...

About the food in the Lunar New Year. Banh gio and banh ú are familiar traditional dishes that are easy to find all year round.
