The Vietnam Football Federation announced that: "To promote the development of youth football, the Organizing Committee of the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand has proposed a regulation that only allows the use of U22 players for men's football. This regulation was approved after a recent meeting between the Football Association of Thailand and the Sports Authority of Thailand."

This means that SEA Games 33 will not apply the addition of U22 3, similar to the regulation in SEA Games 32, where teams are only allowed to use U22 players. However, many people believe that Thailand's decision is to "ban" Nguyen Xuan Son from participating in SEA Games 33.

This is an unreasonable viewpoint and a misunderstanding of the common goal. For a long time, the SEA Games has been a playground for young players to have the opportunity to compete and develop. Therefore, allowing the best players of a football country to compete for the SEA Games gold medal is somewhat inappropriate.

Vietnamese fans have debated about midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc and some players playing in the First Division, worrying that the poor playing environment will hinder their development to contribute to the Vietnamese team. Now they are discussing about Nguyen Xuan Son not being able to participate in the 33rd SEA Games, which is a paradox. Because clearly the ability of the striker born in 1997 is not suitable to compete with young players.

With Xuan Son, Vietnamese football hopes that he will contribute more to the journey to go further at the continental level such as the Asian Cup and World Cup qualifiers. If Madam Pang and Thailand decide to apply the U22 3 rule, this also needs to be considered with the decision of whether to use the 27-year-old striker or not. Is this decision really in line with the purpose of naturalizing players to improve the quality of the Vietnamese team?

All of this shows that there is nothing to argue about if SEA Games 33 does not apply U22 3, or that the comment that Madam Pang "banned" striker Nguyen Xuan Son is no longer important.
