On January 30 (i.e. the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year 2025), naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son sent Tet wishes to fans in Vietnamese with the content: "Happy New Year. Wishing all the best", and shared about the recovery process and goals ahead.

Sharing that 2025 is the first year Xuan Son celebrates Tet as a Vietnamese citizen, the striker born in 1997 said: "For me and my family, this is a special time. This Tet holiday, I will only stay at home because this is an important time for me to recover from my injury."

Xuan Son thanked Thien (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Xuan Thien Group - sponsor of Nam Dinh Green Steel Club), whom he always calls affectionately Papa Thien, and affirmed that he would associate his whole career with Papa Thien.

Striker Nguyen Xuan Son considers naturalization and playing for the Vietnamese national team as a turning point in his life, and hopes to recover quickly from his injury to return to dedication. Nearly a month after the 2024 ASEAN Cup, Nguyen Xuan Son sometimes still doesn't believe what happened is real. He won the championship with Vietnam, winning the double of the individual award - Best Player and Top Scorer. The naturalized striker of Brazilian origin was rewarded with money, a car and was recognized by a large number of fans for his talent.

Talking about the fate of wearing the Vietnamese team, Xuan Son expressed: "The story of my wearing the Vietnamese team is a different story, also relatively crazy. I scored a lot of goals, became a champion. Sometimes I still don't believe this is true, but I'm always happy about it. I get almost everything in a short time. Sometimes, I even find it unbelievable because everything happens so fast."

Sending a message to fans, Xuan Son affirmed: "I always try 200% of my strength every time I wear the Vietnamese team. I hope to return soon to compete, sing the Vietnamese National Anthem and score a lot of goals for the Vietnamese team." At the end of the video, Xuan Son sang the Vietnamese National Anthem with proud emotions.

Xuan Son becomes a Vietnamese citizen in September 2024. Three months later, he waited with bated breath to be approved by the World Football Federation (FIFA) and the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) to compete in the 2024 ASEAN Cup. In the end, Son was named in the list of 26 players participating in the tournament, but was not registered to play in the first three matches of the group stage. It was not until the last turn against Myanmar on December 20, 2024, that Son was able to play when he met the conditions for 5 consecutive years of living in Vietnam.

On the Viet Tri field, Xuan Son made an impressive debut, when he scored a double and assisted two goals to help Vietnam win 5-0. After that, he scored three more goals to help the home team defeat Singapore 5-1 after two semi-finals. In the turn of the final, Son scored a double to help Vietnam win Thailand 2-1, also the first win against the opponent in the official tournament in 17 years.

In the second leg away from Rajamangala, Son broke his right leg, but Vietnam still won 3-2 to be crowned the Southeast Asian tournament for the third time. The striker born in 1997 had to cheer for his teammates in the hospital, then burst into tears at the airport when he was handed the Cup and wearing a medal by coach Kim Sang-sik.

Xuan Son also thanked VFF, the club and many people for supporting him a lot during the difficult period, especially the president of Nam Dinh Club Nguyen Van Thien. Therefore, he chose to stick his entire career as a player with this president.

After the surgery, Son is expected to need about six to eight months to recover. He stayed in the hospital in Hanoi for two weeks before returning to Nam Dinh to continue practicing recovery and welcome the Lunar New Year 2025. He said he would stay at home to focus on recovering instead of visiting relatives. "I feel very happy to enjoy this special time of my life," Son said.
