Vu Ngoc Dang (born 1974) was born and raised in Thai Binh. His childhood was extremely difficult and deprived. However, he still tried to pursue his studies.

However, in interviews, this famous director often shared that he was a bad student and lazy. He could not find his passion, was not interested in studying, did not know what his future would be, no one believed in him, and he had no expectations.
Coming from the countryside to the city, Vu Ngoc Dang did all kinds of jobs to survive, lived a hard life, and then found every way to achieve success. During his university years, he was a photographer for all the students in the school. And this job helped him save enough money to cover his living expenses and continue his studies.
In 1999, Vu Ngoc Dang graduated as valedictorian of the Directing Course of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema with the film The Mouse Couple. It was his first film with a production budget of only 4.5 million VND.
However, before that, Vu Ngoc Dang had intended to drop out of school. At that time, Meritorious Artist Cong Ninh, Vu Ngoc Dang's teacher, advised him to take the entrance exam for the directing department when he confided his intention to drop out of school because he felt that the acting major he was studying was not really suitable for him.
When Vu Ngoc Dang graduated from the directing course, it was Cong Ninh who introduced his student to Nguyen Ho, Director of TFS Film Studio, so that he was later assigned to make the film Chuot. That's why Vu Ngoc Dang once said: "If it weren't for teacher Cong Ninh, I would probably still be an unknown person."
After the success of his debut film "The Mouse Couple", Vu Ngoc Dang began his professional filmmaking career. He continues to try his hand at a new film titled Mouse. The film talks about another aspect of the mouse, specifically, it is about transforming the fallen soul of an unintentional criminal and making this guy unable to bear living with his sins and turn himself in.
After the film Chuot, director Vu Ngoc Dang "went silent and disappeared", causing many people to think that he had quit his job. However, he made an impressive comeback after 4 years of silence with the film Nhung Co Gai Leng in 2004. Exploiting the hidden aspects behind the beautiful images of long-legged models. The film quickly received a response and discussion from the audience. Successfully won the Silver Lotus Award at the 14th Vietnam Film Festival.
After 2 years, director Vu Ngoc Dang continued to release the TV series "Tropical Snow" in 2006. By 2008, the film "Suddenly Want to Cry" by Vu Ngoc Dang became a classic film that everyone knew. The actors Tang Thanh Ha and Luong Manh Hai or Hieu Hien also thanks to the film, suddenly became famous A-list actors.

Not only contributing to increasing impressive film products for the country, director Vu Ngoc Dang also contributed to bringing many young actors to go further in the country's film industry such as: Minh Hang, Nha Phuong, Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc,...
In early 2021, he directed the acclaimed film Bo Gia. The work was awarded the Silver Lotus at the 22nd Vietnam Film Festival. In addition, the film Chi Chi Em Em 2 directed by Vu Ngoc Dang also achieved positive results when after 1 week of screening, the film earned nearly 50 billion VND.
As a "billionaire director", Vu Ngoc Dang confided that his daily life is simple. "When I leave work, I don't consider myself a director, I comfortably wear shorts and slippers and sit in a cafe with friends. I don't like to appear in the press much, don't want to be on TV, and even less do I want young audiences to know my face... I want to be as comfortable as possible when I go out, without feeling like I'm a celebrity," he said.
Regarding his private life, Vu Ngoc Dang is famous for being a very private person. He believes that he is always happy and satisfied with everything he has.
