Actress Truc Mai was born in 1987 in Hai Duong. She left an impression on the audience through the films: The Second Woman, Going Through the Darkness, The Children of Saigon Commandos, Say Love, Village in the City, Father's Gift, Near and Far Roads...
Truc Mai joined the People's Police Drama Theater in 2010. However, not long after that, Truc Mai's mother died of cancer. This incident made her decide to transfer her job to the Political Affairs Department - Hai Duong Provincial Police to be closer to her family and take care of her father.
After that, the actress got married and had children. It was not until 2020 that she returned to the People's Police Drama Theater as an actress. Truc Mai was promoted to Major at the age of 35. As an artist working in the police force, Truc Mai must comply with many specific regulations within the scope of the industry's regulations.
She told Vietnamnet: "I am not comfortable dyeing my hair, and I have to be moderate in sharing information on social networks. I think it would be great if every artist had such standards. Everyone would be more aware of their profession and themselves." Besides her career, Truc Mai currently has a very happy family. The actress's husband is a regular police officer. Although he does not work in the arts, he is very considerate and always indulges his wife, wholeheartedly supporting her work.
Truc Mai has two children, a boy and a girl. She gave birth to her second child in 2022 when her first son was 11 years old. Truc Mai considers herself lucky because not only is her husband supportive of her passion, but her son also proactively offered to help her take care of her younger sibling so that she can pursue her artistic career.
Despite her glorious career, her personal life has been full of hardships. Sharing in the program Confession, broadcast in 2023 on VTV3, Truc Mai said that while filming the movie The Second Woman, her biological mother was diagnosed with cancer and passed away not long after. Before that, she had been undergoing treatment for a while but kept it a secret from her because she wanted her daughter to focus on her work. It was only when her mother's condition became serious that Truc Mai learned the news.
Recalling her painful past, Truc Mai could not hold back her emotions. She said: "My mother was being treated at the K hospital. We were both in Hanoi but I did not know anything. I was shocked because I thought this only happened in movies, I did not expect it to happen to me. Because my mother is the person who has a great influence on me."
The sudden passing of her mother made Truc Mai realize that she had not spent much time with her family. That was the reason why she decided to temporarily stop acting to take care of her father. After that, she got married and had a child, causing her acting career to be interrupted for 9 years. When witnessing her colleagues still tirelessly dedicating themselves to art, along with her burning love for the profession, Truc Mai always longed for the opportunity to return to acting.
The milestone that made her determined to find her passion was her son's naive words. The actress said that her son encouraged her to pursue her passion, because she always taught her son to have a dream to strive for.
In May 2020, Truc Mai returned to the People's Police Theater as a stage actress. On television, she surprised the audience when she reappeared as the "third person" in the movie Let's Say Love.
Sharing about this role, Truc Mai said that she was very hesitant when receiving a role that she had never played before. However, with the desire to show many colors in her acting career, Truc Mai overcame psychological struggles to take on the role of Tram, "the third person" in Let's Say Love.
The actress once shared that after reading the script, Truc Mai realized that Tram was a "third person" but not traditional at all.
"Most of the traditional third party girls that the audience often sees on screen will have greed, scheming, and purpose... But Tram became the "third party" simply because she truly loved a married man. At first, Tram also fought to keep that wrong happiness for herself, but later this character gradually understood all the problems to make better decisions.
Tram loves blindly, making wrong moves that leave painful consequences. Because I am also a woman, when playing Tram's role, I also have a little sympathy for this character because that blindness has obscured Tram's reason.
But after all, being the third person in someone else's marriage is completely wrong. Tram is both blameworthy and pitiful, but the pitiful part is probably more. The later developments of the film will give the audience a deeper insight into this character," said the actress.
Regarding the influence of the role, Truc Mai said that until now, many people still hate her and call her "the third person", but for her, that is the happiness of an actress. "Because I do a good job in the role, I can leave an impression on the audience. That impression can be good, can be bad, but it is still my own success", Truc Mai confided.
Returning to film, Truc Mai admitted that she felt pressured by the young generation of outstanding actors. She said: "In terms of acting, I can still do it, but I see that you guys invest in your appearance very professionally. That makes me feel self-conscious and I wonder if I made a mistake in coming back."
