Thomas Iris Thanh: German-American beauty competes in Miss Cosmo VN, boyfriend dies before semi-finals

Thomas Iris Thanh was born in 1999. Her father is German and her mother is Vietnamese. The contestant grew up in Germany and can speak three languages: Vietnamese, German, and English. After returning to Vietnam, she worked as an illustrator for children in Ho Chi Minh City. She was in the top 2 of Miss Charm Vietnam 2023, top 16 of Miss Universe Vietnam 2023, and participated in Miss Peace Vietnam and Miss Supranational Vietnam.

In her application for Miss Supranational Vietnam, Thomas Iris Thanh said that since her second year of university, she decided to move out and live independently. At that time, the beauty was also financially independent, not relying on her family. "At that time, I was still a student, but within the next two years, I tried very hard to become a freelance children's book illustrator. This was my dream job when I was very young," the 23-year-old beauty said.

Since childhood, I have had a deep passion for painting and wanted to become an illustrator. After a lot of effort and hard work, I have achieved my childhood dream. Currently, I am a professional illustrator and I am on the journey to achieve my next dream, which is the crown of Miss Universe Vietnam - Miss Cosmo Vietnam 2023.

Participating in this year's competition is an honor, as well as a great opportunity for me. To prepare for this competition, I have tried very hard to improve myself and I hope that through this, I can give everyone a source of positive energy as well as courage and belief in themselves, that we can all achieve our dreams, if we have enough effort, perseverance and belief in ourselves."

As a result, she stopped in the top 16 finalists. It is worth mentioning that during the competition, the beauty received bad news when her boyfriend passed away before the semi-finals. Accordingly, the mixed-race beauty said that her boyfriend passed away 3 days before her semi-final (December 26, 2023). At that time, she was competing in Da Lat so she heard the news late and could not return to Ho Chi Minh City to take care of the funeral.

"At first, when we heard that my boyfriend was missing, my friends and I thought he had been in a car acciden.t because he disappeared on his motorbike. But later, the police reported that he had died of a stroke," said Iris Thanh.

"I was extremely shocked, I couldn't believe it could happen. We were close from the first moment we met. I used to consider him my soul mate, but I never expected this to be how our journey would end."

Iris Thanh's boyfriend, Andreas, is Norwegian and is working in Vietnam. His family has not yet been able to arrange a return trip to Ho Chi Minh City. Iris Thanh said: "I am waiting for my boyfriend's family to come to Vietnam to receive his body because the police do not have a diplomatic note from the embassy."

On her personal page, Iris Thanh shared a long post about Andreas, saying that her boyfriend is a rational person, giving her positive energy, knowing how to listen and understand. She hopes her boyfriend rests in peace in the other world.

At the final round of Miss Universe Vietnam 2023, Iris Thanh was praised for her stage presence, her height of 1.79 m, and her beautiful, sharp, and attractive face. She entered the top 16.
