Tran Thanh caused a box office sensation when "Tho Oi!" (Oh, Little Rabbit!) set a record of over 41 billion VND on the 4th day of Tet, officially becoming the highest-grossing Vietnamese film of all time, surpassing all competitors.
Tran Thanh continues to be the center of attention at the Vietnamese box office as his film "Tho Oi!" (Oh, Little Rabbit!) reached another impressive milestone during Tet. On his personal page, the director excitedly announced that the revenue on the 4th day alone exceeded 41 billion VND – a figure considered unprecedented in the history of domestic cinema. He couldn't hide his emotion when he wrote: "The revenue on the 4th day alone for 'Tho Oi!' Once again! Let me hug you all, squeeze you tight and give you 100 kisses! I don't know how to thank you enough! Hu hu... It has surpassed the record of Mai and the Four Conspiracies!"
In just one day, "Rabbit, Oh My!" grossed over 41 billion VND, officially setting a record for the highest-grossing single-day Vietnamese film of all time. This achievement not only put the film far ahead of its competitors released at the same time but also surpassed previous milestones set by Tran Thanh himself. This demonstrates that the male artist's brand appeal remains strong through each film project released during peak season.
Immediately after the post appeared, the online community responded enthusiastically. The comments section was filled with congratulations and proud messages for the team. Many viewers commented that this was truly "Tran Thanh's Lunar New Year film season," and acknowledged his efforts to reinvent himself by not continuing with his familiar storytelling style but choosing a more challenging approach. Many who watched the film also considered it the most psychologically intense and ambitious project the director had ever undertaken.
From a professional standpoint, "Rabbit, Oh My!" shows a clear shift in storytelling approach. While previous works garnered attention for their extensive dialogue and stage-like atmosphere, this time Tran Thanh employs a non-linear structure, recounting the same event from multiple perspectives. This narrative style demands tight control of information to avoid confusion. In fact, the film's appeal stems from its pervasive gloomy atmosphere, fast-paced editing, and the more coherent and restrained handling of climactic scenes compared to his previous works.
The cast's performances also play a key role in maintaining the emotional rhythm of the entire film. Van Mai Huong is considered a highlight in her portrayal of Hai Lan, with her subtle acting focusing on exploring the depth of her character rather than over-displaying emotions. As a result, her character delivers many unexpected emotional layers to the audience. Quoc Anh also demonstrates maturity in his handling of psychological aspects, showing clear progress in each scene. Furthermore, the cameo appearances are well-timed, helping to ease the heavy atmosphere and providing appropriate pauses between tense scenes.
Nevertheless, the film still falls short of absolute perfection according to some viewers. Some segments were criticized for being a bit noisy, especially when comedic elements intruded on emotional climaxes, somewhat diminishing the emotional impact. Furthermore, some character transformations lacked sufficient depth, resulting in unconvincing plot twists. The role of Kim, played by Tran Thanh, also sparked debate, as scenes requiring strong emotions didn't fully meet the expectations of discerning audiences.
Truong Giang kicked Tran Thanh, not afraid to be compared before the Tet movie war
An Dương11:11:48 09/02/2026In the midst of the Tet 2026 box office spotlight, a familiar comparison is mentioned again. But this time, Truong Giang chose to face more frankly than ever, showing an attitude that is not afraid to be compared to Tran Thanh.
