A painful love story that ended in tragedy with Mr. My Linh
When his career was at its peak, Thang Tran Nghiep met and fell in love with actress Ong My Linh. However, the beauty chose to end her life suddenly. The death of the beautiful actress once caused a stir in public opinion because of the suspicion that Thang Tran Nghiep was the one who indirectly pushed Mr. My Linh to the brink of despair and death.
Thang Tran Nghiep and Mr. My Linh met in early 1982. At that time, the two had the opportunity to collaborate in the television series Thirteen Sisters. After filming ended, the two publicly announced their love story and received support from friends, colleagues and fans. They were considered the "fairy and pearl" couple of the Hong Kong entertainment industry at that time.
However, the couple's love story soon became controversial when Thang Tran Nghiep was continuously rumored to have other ghosts by his side while he was in Taiwan filming.
The stress in his career and unstable love life made Mr. My Linh turn to alcohol to relieve his sadness. Famous stars used to regularly appear in newspapers with images of indulgences at bars and entertainment venues. These things greatly influenced the image of a pearl lady that she had previously built.
The relationship between Thang Tran Nghiep and Mr. My Linh has been turbulent for a while due to lack of trust in each other and frequent separation due to work. In May 1985, after a photo shoot for a new movie, Thang Tran Nghiep and Mr. My Linh had a big argument and the actress decided to say goodbye. Thang Tran Nghiep was angry so he did not beg or coax his girlfriend.
The next morning, the beautiful actress was discovered dead. At that time, Mr. My Linh was only 26 years old. The police concluded that the beauty drank a lot of strong alcohol and sleeping pills and then opened the gas key to end her life. On the calendar at the head of the bed, she still saved the last words she left for Thang Tran Nghiep: "Darling, I love you".
Immersed in negativity, psychological crisis after emotional shock
Mr. My Linh's death was a big shock to the Hong Kong entertainment industry at that time and criticism was immediately directed towards Thang Tran Nghiep. Many rumors say that it was the actor's promiscuity and neglect of his lover that pushed Mr. My Linh to a painful end.
Thang Tran Nghiep spoke up to clarify but was unsuccessful. He fell into a mental crisis and neglected his work. He even had to go to psychological treatment for a while before deciding to leave Hong Kong for the mainland to seek opportunities and avoid public opinion.
In 1994, Thang Chan Nghiep stopped acting and switched to management for young actors. He also started business and gradually gave up his job in the entertainment industry.
30 years after Mr. My Linh passed away, Thang Tran Nghiep calmed down enough to recall the past incident. He clarified that he was not a treacherous person and that the past accusations and suspicions against him were wrong.
"Everything is arranged by fate. I have endured a lot. God knows whether I am a good person or a bad person. Those past events have made me face life in a more positive way," he repeated.
Talking about his ex, Thang Tran Nghiep shared: "I have remembered her (Mr. My Linh) for many years. If I still miss her so much now, it would not be fair to my wife. There are many scenes in my life." people and it's impossible to erase all the images from the past. But we need to look at the life in front of us. I also have family burdens. So, I try not to want to bring up this, I don't want to remind to her".
The current life is heavy with the burden of food, clothing, and money of the once famous tiger general

In addition to her two adult children, Thang Tran Nghiep is still responsible for raising four children. Life is not too difficult, but at the age of 70, he still has to work hard to have enough money to take care of his wife and children.
It is known that after a past love scandal, Thang Tran Nghiep went to the mainland to build a career. However, due to age and decreased attractiveness, he could only participate in small projects.
In his late years, he could no longer participate in acting like before but could only run shows at small venues and advertise products.
In 2021, Chinese media reported that Thang Tran Nghiep performed at a wedding. Even though he is old and no longer as handsome as before, the once famous "Yen Thanh" still happily interacts and chats with the audience.
Even in some events of TVB (Hong Kong), he appeared alongside famous artists of his time such as Miao Kieu Wai and Andy Lau. Compared to his former colleague, Thang Tran Nghiep looks a bit more mature and old. He can no longer maintain the pompous, scholarly appearance like in his youth.
