This is the rare time that Japanese Crown Prince Fumihito has shared details about his daughter's marriage. Previously, he criticized the media for reporting falsely about the married life of former princess Mako.
Japan's Crown Prince Fumihito is known to have an outspoken personality. In the new book Akishinomiya, penned by veteran journalist Emori Keiji, Crown Prince Fumihito reveals "secret history" stories and his thoughts on matters of the imperial family.
In Akishinomiya, the book that takes his title, Crown Prince Fumihito admits that from the moment he was born, he himself has lived in a state of "limited freedom".
"Around me are servants who appear all the time, everywhere. This limits my freedom. After all, I, like many others, will sometimes feel suffocated," the Japanese crown prince wrote in a new book. .
In the new book, the Crown Prince also talks about the turbulent marriage of his eldest daughter Mako, who left the royal family after marrying the commoner Kei Komuro. The crown prince said things went very smoothly at first in May 2017 when Mako announced her engagement. The Crown Prince and his wife happily agreed and supported their daughter's decision.
In an interview in June 2017, the Crown Prince was optimistic about the future of his daughter and Komuro. He thought that Komuro could continue his legal work at a law office and Mako also found a job after marriage. The crown prince also suggested that his son find an apartment in the vicinity of Tokyo to start "building a life within my means".
However, the Crown Prince admitted that he was naive to think that Mako's marriage should only be decided by the young couple. Not long after the engagement was announced, the media repeatedly attacked Mako and the royal family over financial troubles involving Komuro's mother. This caused the wedding to be postponed twice for almost 4 years. Out of concern, the Crown Prince met Komuro and his mother several times, urging them to clarify the matter to the public. However, when the problem was still hanging, Komuro set off to the US to study in August 2018.
At that time, the Crown Prince wondered what Mako and her daughter's fiance were thinking. He anxiously watched as the media thoroughly exploited the couple until they got married in October 2021. In the book, Fumihito criticizes newspapers for "composed of facts" about her daughter's marriage.
"The conversations are printed and other information is presented as if the reporter had witnessed it all. But what is posted is often never accurate." The Crown Prince's indignation with the media eventually turned into a state of resignation.
In Akishinomiya, it reads: "My approach is to ignore all but the most egregious falsehoods, for pointing out one error in one passage only gives credence to everything else. Social media only amplifies the problem."
Recently, the image of the former Japanese princess Mako and her husband holding hands together, walking happily on the streets of New York (USA) caused a fever with the international public. The couple's love story continues to attract the attention of the public.
Currently, Mako's husband - Mr. Kei Komuro (30 years old) has not found stability in the job he pursues. Kei continued to fail the competency test for the second time, so he could not officially practice law in New York. Not being able to become a lawyer makes Kei still stop at the assistant position at the law firm where he works.
Mako gave up her title of princess in the Japanese Imperial Family to marry a "commoner". She also turned down the $1.3 million payment the Royal Family gave her after she renounced her title. Mako's actions caused many people to express their admiration for her bravery, sacrifice and great affection for her husband.
Many people have expected that Kei will soon have a stable job, improve his position in the field he pursues, to be "worthy" of his Royal wife. However, things are not going well for the couple. Kei continued to fail the second time in the aptitude test and could not become a lawyer authorized to work officially in New York.
Meanwhile, Mako has not found a job after settling in New York with her husband. She is currently an unpaid volunteer at a large museum located near her home. In the face of a situation with many difficulties and challenges for the couple, public opinion expressed concern that the pressure from the reality of life might make the newlyweds feel tired right from the start.
However, witnessing the image of the couple happily holding hands and walking on the street as if nothing was bothering them, made the public very excited and continued to wish the couple good things. The couple are in their 30s together.
