While the Billboard Ho.t 100 is filled with Christmas music, the Billboard 200's top 10 is dominated by familiar albums. In addition, there are two No.4 albums Strategy: 14th Mini Album (EP) by Twice and No.3 Rosie by Rose.
According to Luminate, in the US for the week ending December 12, Rosie earned 102,000 equivalent album units. Of that, 70,000 were from sales (which helped Rosie debut at No. 3 on the Top Albums chart), and 31,000 were from streams (equivalent to 43.85 million official on-demand streams of the album's tracks; debuting at No. 17 on the Top Streaming Albums chart).
Rosie's first-week sales were bolstered by more than 15 physical variants, in CD and vinyl formats, many of which included collector's items (some of which were random).
Rosie is Rose's debut studio album. Released on December 6, 2024 through The Black Label and Atlantic Records, the album marks Rose's first solo release since leaving YG Entertainment and Interscope Records in 2023. The album's title is Rose's affectionate nickname.
Rose wrote and co-produced Rosie with collaborators including Bruno Mars, Carter Lang and Omer Fedi. A predominantly pop-sounding album, Rosie features 12 tracks that explore pop-punk and alternative pop, while also blending elements of 1990s R&B, synthpop and ballads.
Rosie's content is Rose's positive attitude towards fame as well as her heartbreaking love affairs in her early twenties.
"I'm grateful for the relationships I had in my twenties, just like any other gir.l. I want people to understand that I'm not that different from your average girlfriend," Rose shared about the album's theme. "I think anyone who has been through those kinds of relationships will relate to my songs. It doesn't even have to be about boyfriends, it's about any toxic relationship."
Not trying to be perfect, Rose revealed: "I'm ready to be a little more vulnerable, more open and honest, so that people don't misunderstand and see me for who I am."
Rosie was supported by three singles. Apt., featuring Mars, was released as the album's lead single on October 18, 2024, reaching No. 8 on the Ho.t 100, No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and topping the charts in several places, including South Korea, Australia, Japan and New Zealand. It was followed by the singles Number One Gir.l and Toxic Till the End.
Rosie, with No. 3 on the Billboard 200, is the highest-charting album by a female K-pop solo artist on the prestigious chart. Internationally, Rosie also entered the top 10 in countries such as Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the UK. Previously, as a member of Blackpink, Rose had two more top 10s, including Born Pink at No. 1 in 2022.
The album Rosie was well received by critics, with a Metacritic score of 69/100 based on four reputable sources.
Clash called Rosie a "solo triumph" and commented that the album was filled with "pop peaks", cementing Rose's status as a global pop star. Renowned for Sound also praised the album's songs as "good enough to stand up to the best pop releases of the year".
Rolling Stone praised Rose's solid, versatile songwriting and ability to tell a story with honesty and conviction. NME called her personal authenticity a bold move, trading "the glamour of K-pop for emotionally honest, intimate songwriting." Rose's voice was also praised for its versatility.
In a mixed review, the Associated Press wrote that the album was "a roller coaster of relatable emotions" and that it was "sincere, but a little sleepy".
