Returning to the film project role as Tam in the film directed by Tran Huu Tan. Rima Thanh Vy caused a stir with the dancing scenes by the lotus pond, both mysterious and seductive. Recently, she continued to assert herself in the Thai market, causing a stir on social networks.
Rima Thanh Vy, real name Nguyen Phuong Thanh Vy, born in 1995 in Ho Chi Minh City, is one of the few such cases. With her elegant appearance, expressive eyes and slim figure, she easily creates sympathy at first sight. However, few people know that, hidden deep inside that girl is a determined soul, an iron will and a relentless artistic journey, from her first steps in childhood to a colorful "muse" of the Vietnamese screen and now, reaching out to the international scene.
The journey to acting: From model to "transformed" muse on screen
Despite her early success as a model, Rima Thanh Vy's greatest passion has always been acting. She constantly seeks opportunities to stand in front of the camera, even for the smallest roles. Thanh Vy once shared that she had to take "many detours" to get the acting opportunities she has now.
While still a high school student, she had the opportunity to participate in films such as Scandal: Secret of the Red Carpet by director Victor Vu and Hot Boy Noi Loan by director Vu Ngoc Dang, even though they were just extras or small roles. Those were valuable experiences, the first stepping stone for the young girl to nurture her dream of professional acting.
After a period of "silence" to improve herself, Rima Thanh Vy returned stronger. She participated in major beauty and modeling contests, successively reaching the top 9 Ao Dai Beauty at Miss World Vietnam 2016 and especially entering the top 6 Asia's Next Top Model 2018. Although possessing a modest height (1m68) compared to international contestants, Thanh Vy's lovely face, attractive expression and confidence have helped her create her own mark.
These experiences have tempered her, helping her become more confident when seriously entering the film industry. She continuously makes a strong impression on the audience through a series of "transformative" roles, breaking all stereotypes about a "long-legged model acting in movies".
In the movie "Thanh Soi" (2022), Rima Thanh Vy plays Hong - a girl with an innocent appearance but a complex inner self and formidable fighting ability. Many viewers have compared Hong to "Ngo Thanh Van's Harley Quinn " because of her charm and characteristic rebelliousness.
Thanh Vy had to spend a lot of time practicing martial arts and physical training to fully transform into a role that requires strength and flexibility, and even though it was a supporting female role, Thanh Vy's Hong left a deep impression, showing her potential in action films.
Right after Thanh Soi, Rima Thanh Vy continued to challenge herself with the horror genre in "Muoi: The Curse Returns" (2022). She took on the role of Hang, a cursed girl who had to endure the control of a spiritual force. To transform into this character, Thanh Vy had to lose up to 10kg and spend time learning to draw to depict in detail the scenes where Hang was possessed. The scenes of body deformation, along with having to endure many hours of makeup, proved her sacrifice and utmost effort for the role. Hang's psychological acting ability, diverse expressions and pain have received much praise from critics and audiences.
However, perhaps the role that made Rima Thanh Vy's name explode and "cause a fever" on the screen was Tam in the movie "Cam" (2024). This is not the gentle, resigned Tam in the fairy tale that we are familiar with. Rima Thanh Vy transformed into a thorny Tam, with bold scenes and crazy emotional "steering", controversial but also impressive.
She did not hesitate to perform sensitive scenes on the big screen to portray the character's inner and physical transformation. Her daring to break her image to serve the role showed the actress's professionalism and courage. Although there were some mixed opinions about her dialogue (which she admitted was a weakness and needed post-production dubbing), it cannot be denied that the role of Tam helped Rima Thanh Vy affirm her ability to transform in a variety of ways and her spirit of dedication to art.
Besides, Rima Thanh Vy also participated in many television projects such as Hoa Vuong and movies such as Ngay Xua Co Mot Truyen Tinh (role of Lua), constantly renewing herself and accumulating acting experience.
Going international: "Ghost Bride" and its big step onto the Thai screen
Not only stopping at domestic success, Rima Thanh Vy is writing a new promising chapter for her career when reaching out to the international film market. She is currently a "hot" name on the Thai screen with the Vietnamese-Thai horror film project called "Ghost Bride".
Being chosen to play the female lead in an international co-production, especially in a thriving film industry like Thailand, is an important milestone, affirming Rima Thanh Vy's talent and appeal. In the film, she co-stars with JJ Krissanapoom Pibulsonggram - a multi-talented artist of Thai showbiz, who made an impression with the film Ghost Kiss. "Ghost Bride" marks the collaboration between Thongkham Films (Thailand) and Silver Moonlight Entertainment (Vietnam), directed by Lee Thongkham (Thailand).
This project not only aims to promote cultural and film exchanges between the two countries but also targets international audiences. Rima Thanh Vy humorously shared: "I find myself having a knack for horror films. I don't know why directors 'target' me, maybe because my face is too ghostly?". Her enthusiasm and professionalism when working in an international environment have received many compliments.
The film's closing ceremony took place in Bangkok, Thailand in September 2024 and the film is expected to officially hit theaters in early 2025. "Ghost Bride" is expected to be a unique horror film, blending Thai and Vietnamese cultural elements, bringing a new experience to the audience. This is certainly a major turning point in Rima Thanh Vy's career, opening up wider international cooperation opportunities in the future, bringing her name far beyond the borders of Vietnam.
Movie Cam: Beautiful enough setting, scary enough, engaging enough acting, but minus 1 point Thảo Mai16:56:20 19/09/2024Tam Cam is a national fairy tale that everyone knows by heart. Turning the film version of Cam into a horror film is a curious move, but also risky because if done poorly, the audience will react.
