Singer Phuong Dung - 'White Swallow Go Cong' was once known as the voice that made waves in the early 60s of the last century. Few people know that the female singer was once entangled in unnecessary noise with her juniors in the profession.
Singer Phuong Dung was born in 1946 in Go Cong (Tien Giang). According to Phuong Dung, from a young age, she was fond of music and liked to practice singing along to songs played on the radio. When she was a schoolgirl, Phuong Dung participated in cultural programs and attracted the attention of many people.
Seeing that she was passionate about singing, when her family let Phuong Dung enter the Gia Long Girls' School in Saigon, she went to the radio station to register herself in the singer selection contest. Unfortunately, Phuong Dung only reached the semi-finals. Explaining the reason for her failure, Phuong Dung said that on that day, all the contestants who took the exam with her had a musician and a singing instructor while she went alone.
Unrelenting of her desire to become a singer, Phuong Dung is still quietly engrossed in backing vocals at tea rooms in Saigon. She said that although she was originally a backing singer, she loved reading culture very much. In her free time, she reads books because she always thinks that culture is the foundation for singers.
From a backing singer, Phuong Dung gradually gained attention when performing pre-war songs, but it was not until she sang bolero songs that she really became famous. A series of songs such as: Sorrow at the inn, The hills of sim flowers, Ta Tu in the night marked the name of singer Phuong Dung.
Many musicians chose Phuong Dung to introduce new songs. Many record labels have reached out to her to invite to record. The radio station also chose Phuong Dung's voice to broadcast on the air. Phuong Dung liked to sing in a white ao dai, so she was called by the Saigon art world with the name "Go Cong white swallow".
Phuong Dung once said that there was a time when the income from the tea room, recording, and running shows each month was up to 200 gold trees, so she could support her whole family and help the family.
8 children and intact first love
Singer Phuong Dung said she got married after a year of dating. Her love affair was also coincidental because she knew each other on an occasion in Bangkok, Thailand in 1967. Phuong Dung's mother did not like this man because he was considered "illegal".
"My husband studied abroad in France since childhood, Vietnamese is not very fluent. When he returned, he was not like the Vietnamese boys who could speak: "Yes sir, I came to visit you, I would like to invite Phuong Dung to eat. ice cream, watching movies...'' but he just came and said: ''I'll wait for you outside'' is my mother's comment: 'You ungrateful, uneducated guy'. In the West, they have liberal and independent attitudes from 16-17. They think this is a private story of a couple and my mother doesn't understand it," the female singer confided.
Phuong Dung said that her husband was very patient, even being cursed in the middle of the road, but the man he loved only bowed his head and remained silent, not answering a question. Her mother's prohibition made Phuong Dung and her beloved only miss each other but did not meet even though they were in the same city.
But the couple's love is big enough to overcome all barriers so that the couple can live peacefully together. The female singer is always proud when talking about her family home. She said she only loved one person in her life, lived with one person for the rest of her life.
Phuong Dung said that her life did not have stories of "crazy love to live in a hurry", nor did she have painful and anxious separations. For 52 years, the female singer has lived happily with her husband 13 years older than her and has never had a conflict or quarrel to the point of irreparability.
Phuong Dung and her husband have 8 children together and many times she received questions from friends: ''Are Dung's 8 children common children or husband's children?'', "How many fathers do they have?" and female names. All of them replied, "I say they are from one father and one mother, because my husband and I have lived together for more than 50 years."
In 1977, 9 years after the wedding, the family of singer Phuong Dung moved to Australia to settle down. In August 2017, her husband sadly passed away, leaving a void that was difficult to fill in the heart of the female singer.
"My husband is my first and last love. At first, when he died, I was very sad, but later I understood that life is not forever. He left because of the fate of our husband and wife only. even so, it is also a blessing for him to return to eternity. Even though we no longer see each other, I still feel that he is by my side, encouraging and helping me in life. living alone in old age and relieved of the sadness of losing her husband. I find joy by doing charity work, singing to meet my loving audience," she confided.
Since 1999, singer Phuong Dung has regularly returned to Vietnam to support patients with cataracts for free treatment, opened eye treatment sessions for poor people in her hometown of Go Cong, Tien Giang and then replicated it to other areas. neighboring provinces. She said that the reputation and love that the public gave her was too much for her career, so she had to share this love with those less fortunate.
Lots of noise with juniors
Although her private life is quite tight, the female singer was once entangled in unnecessary noise with her juniors in the profession. It happened in October 2018, when Duong Trieu Vu was angry that singer Phuong Dung had unfairly graded the exam because of his aversion to himself and Dam Vinh Hung. In response, she accused her brother Hoai Linh of being rude and slandering her.
The incident was pushed to the climax when Dam Vinh Hung came out to defend Duong Trieu Vu. He was also heartbroken to recount how singer Phuong Dung once called himself "Dam Vinh Biet", saying heavy words that made Phi Nhung proud and didn't want to look at her face.
Confirming this, the late NS Phi Nhung said that at that time, her senior said bad words to her biological mother. She also disagreed when the female singer intentionally called the wrong stage name of Mr. Dam. However, Phi Nhung said that she was no longer angry with singer Phuong Dung. However, later "White Swallow Go Cong" denied it completely. She said that she had never sung with Phi Nhung, nor offended the junior's mother, and affirmed that it was all fabricated.
After many years, the incident gradually sank into oblivion but was still mentioned from time to time. Recently, singer Phuong Dung again attracted attention when she appeared at a press conference, revealing that in the past she was severely scolded by her wife and junior daughter.
"Personally, Phuong Dung gets scolded a lot! Because they sing wrong, I say, they curse! But that doesn't make me falter!
I'm just reminding the children, but I'm not a teacher, yet they curse me: Dog, you sing animals, but no one listens to you! The person who cursed Phuong Dung was Chau Thanh's wife and daughter" - 'White Swallow Go Cong' said.
In addition, also in 2018, Trang Tran once pressed against the female singer who stole the work to build a charity home.
