Meritorious Artist Bui Cuong was born in 1945 in Hanoi. Before coming to cinema, he graduated from Intermediate in Electrical Engineering and worked at Tam Quang Electrical Enterprise (Hanoi Department of Industry). During his stay, he joined the city workers' theater team and won a Gold Medal with the play Anh Tu .

At the age of 25, thanks to his lover (who is now his wife) he applied for the entrance exam to the University of Theater and Cinema. With the skit Teach You , he was accepted into the school's second acting class. Studying with him at that time were: People's Artist Dao Ba Son, People's Artist Minh Chau, Meritorious Artist Quoc Trong, Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy, artist Vu Dinh Than... Because he was the oldest person in the class, he was elected as class president.

After graduating, he was accepted to work at Vietnam Feature Film Studio. From there, he started his film path with unexpected successes.

The role of Chi Pheo helped Bui Cuong "nail" himself into the audience's mind and brought him a Gold Medal in the category of Best Actor in the 6th Vietnam Film Festival (1983).

In addition to acting, he also tried his hand at directing and achieved certain successes. Meritorious Artist Bui Cuong became the director of nearly 80 TV series.

His first feature film was "The Bearded Hero" produced in 1990 - one of the best-selling films in the market at that time. Not long after that, in 1996, he completed his first plastic feature film "The Childless Woman", a psychological drama that also left a deep impression on television audiences.

The 29-episode television series "The Intelligence General and his two wives" directed by him is also loved by the audience. The film won a gold medal at the National Television Film Festival.

Not only has a glorious career, Meritorious Artist Bui Cuong also makes many people wish to have a happy married life here. His wife has a famous Ao Dai in Hanoi. His two beautiful daughters did not follow the career of an actress, one became a teacher, the other followed her mother's business. But fortunately, he "cocooned" the eldest son-in-law to accompany him to film.

Artist Bui Cuong shared with Vietnamnet: "I don't know how predestined, one of my two sons-in-law, Tran Vu Thuy, chose the same artistic path as his father-in-law. Well, my biological son is not connected. career, I already have a son-in-law so that I can pass on the profession and fuel the fire. Life is so fun and happy."

During his life, Bui Cuong once confided: "My wife and I understand and respect each other. I am fortunate to have a wife who can nurture the family, take care of the children so that I can freely do art.

On the contrary, no matter what I do, I think of my wife and children, and do not do anything to affect the happiness of the family. Now that my children are grown, married, and my wife and I have become grandparents, we have to think and take care of each other even more."

In early August 2018, Meritorious Artist Bui Cuong died of a cerebrovascular accident, at the age of 73. His passing made his relatives, many artists and fans mourn and regret.

Artist Bui Cuong's wife was shocked when she heard that her husband had died, leading to high blood pressure and hospitalization. Meritorious Artist Bui Cuong's contributions to the country's cinema industry were recognized by the State-level Specialized Council, and requested the State Council to consider and award the title of People's Artist in 2018.
