Despite her successful career, artist Huong Dungâs personal life is quite private. Few people know that Meritorious Artist Huong Dung once went through a difficult time, getting into debt because she trusted her friends. In the past, she struggled to pay off her debt and educate her children.
In recent years, the actress has had a peaceful life. Meritorious Artist Huong Dung (1960) is a veteran drama and film actress in the Vietnamese cinema industry. Her roles are often sour, fierce, formidable, and scheming characters. Thanks to her sharp and intelligent acting, she has made a strong impression on the audience through many roles. In addition to being famous as an actress, she is also a versatile artist. She holds many different roles such as assistant director, film production organizer, acting teacher, and dubbing team leader.
Huong Dung said that she stood as guarantor for this debt for a close friend. However, this person left, and she became the one who was "assigned debt". Because she had previously stood as a creditor with the creditor. When she fell into dire straits, she had no other choice. She had to actively run shows and act in films to ear.n mone.y to pay off the debt. The actress called this the most haunting and miserable period of her life. Working, taking care of her family, and the worry of the word "debt" always hangin.g over her head made her unable to have a moment of peace.
She worked many jobs at the same time, ran shows, and acted in movies at high frequency just to have mone.y. Huong Dung even took out new loans to pay off old debts due to interest. Because of that, the debt piled up and lasted for many years without stopping. Fortunately, Huong Dung finally paid off all her debts after many years. In addition to her own efforts, she also had the support of her family who "shared the hardships together".
Captain Pham Ha Duy is the son of artist Huong Dung. When he was young, he was a chil.d actor. However, he later became a pilot. Ha Duy caused a stir in public opinion with a drug test scanda.l. He faced disciplinary action of being fired by Vietnam Airlines. This incident made Meritorious Artist Huong Dung - his mother - extremely heartbroken.
Before this incident, Ha Duy had also caused a stir in the press when he was caught red-handed by the police "dancing" at a friend's house. At that time, Ha Duy's mother shared in an interview with the Family and Society reporter. She was very shocked when she received the bad news, because her son had always been educated and strictly managed. The artist shared: "The person who made me shed the most tears was my second son Ha Duy."
Up to now, after the suffering due to the debt incident, Meritorious Artist Huong Dung has overcome. She has a peaceful life with her family. At the ag.e of over 60, she is still diligently working. She even does many other jobs to make ends meet.
People's Artist Huong Dung shared that her two daughters are married and have children, but she lets them be independent and face life on their own, so she does not participate in raising her grandchildren, so don't call her "diaper grandmother".
She confided that her son was about to get married. Although she often appeared on TV in formidable roles, in real life, she was a modern mother-in-law.
"My children are getting married so I'm happy. I'm a modern mother-in-law who loves my daughter-in-law. I don't know if I'll be difficult when I get older, but now I treat my daughter-in-law like my daughter. However, I won't live with my children. My generation and theirs are far apart, so I'm more comfortable letting them be free," said People's Artist Huong Dung.
Although she is best known to the public on television, Huong Dung started out as a drama actress. Since the ag.e of 10, the artist has enjoyed playing dress-up with her friends, hangin.g a scarf and reenacting the scene of the curtain being lifted when a play begins. Thus, her love for the stage was nurtured every day, until at the ag.e of 13, when the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema came to Ha Long - where Huong Dung lived with her family - to recruit actors, she boldly registered.
Although she was accepted, Huong Dung had to put her dream aside because at that time her mother had just given birth to her youngest sibling and the family's finances were difficult. In the 1970s, war broke out, the artist's house was leveled by bombs, and she and her parents had to "tighten their belts" to make a living. However, the hardships of life did not diminish her desire to become a stage actress. The artist said that on school days, she often did not concentrate on listening to lectures because "she only wanted to go to the performing arts".
In February 1975, Huong Dung enlisted in the army and became a signal soldier of the Military School, under Military Region 3. In 1976, while reading the People's newspaper and learning that the General Political Department's Army Drama Troupe was recruiting actors, she quickly took the exam and passed. Two years later, Huong Dung left the army and studied finance and accounting, but in February 1979, she was recruited by the Military Region 3 Troupe and assigned to the singing team.
In 1985, when re-staging the play Female Journalist to participate in the National Professional Theatre Festival in Ho Chi Minh City, the People's Police Drama Troupe went to the units to find actors. Huong Dung was chosen by the director - People's Artist Dinh Nghi - to play the role of journalist Ha Thu. The play later won a silver medal at the Festival, and Huong Dung received a gold medal. This was also her first achievement after more than ten years of perseverance with her love for drama.
In the following years, the actress worked hard to participate in plays. Without formal training, Huong Dung acted instinctively, combining real-life observations and her own experiences. After retiring, every time she watched her colleagues on stage, she always longed to stand in the "cathedral", transforming into every life and sublimating with all the emotions. Sometimes, she self-evaluated some of the actors' limitations, wishing they could perform "better" to satisfy the audience.
Because her passion for the art of drama has never died, Huong Dung said that if she were to receive a stage role at this time, she would be willing to put aside all other work. In addition, the artist hopes to have the opportunity to perform with the younger generation, thereby passing on her experiences to the next generation.
