Artist Hoang Thanh Du choked up when recalling the tragedy on the night of the mini apartment fire in Hanoi. As a witness to the whole incident, he said he was extremely haunted, torn by the call for help.
In recent days, Vietnamese people have been turning their hearts and sharing together, unanimously comforting and expressing their mourning attitude to the incident that shocked the whole internet in Khuong Ha Street, Hanoi. The mini-apartment fire left dozens dead and seriously injured, and scenes of mourning enveloped not only Hanoi, but also spread throughout the country. Everyone is sorry and shocked by this cruel tragedy.
The fire caused heavy damage, not only in terms of people but also the possessions of dozens of families who followed the flames. According to the report of Thanh Xuan district authorities, a particularly serious fire occurred at house number 37, lane 29/70 Khuong Ha street at 23:22 on September 12. The building has an area of over 200m2 with about 150 people living. As of the night of Sept. 13, authorities had identified 56 survivors and 37 injured (of which, 39 of the 56 who died forever) have been identified.
The incident has also been increasingly reported by the media, with many artists also speaking out, sharing the loss of victims in the fire. The actor, director Hoang Thanh Du, was also a witness to the whole incident, when he was right next to the burnt mini-apartment complex. Haunting the incident, the Underground Storm actor is still haunted by heart-wrenching cries for help, the sight of stretchers carrying the injured one by one to the alley.
Speaking to Dan Viet newspaper, Hoang Thanh Du choked up and said: "My house is next to the burnt mini apartment lane in Khuong Ha Street. The land on which this apartment was built was once a carpentry workshop deep in the alley. This apartment has only been built about 10 years ago. As far as I know, at first this landlord applied for a permit to build a house but somehow later turned it into a mini-condominium."
"This apartment has a lot of households living with all backgrounds, including office workers, workers and students. Normally, children living in the apartment often come out near my house to play, play football ... Because in the apartment there is no space for them to play. Children, although sometimes a little innocent and mischievous, are very understanding when making noise and are reminded that they adjust immediately. Just yesterday, the other day... I've seen them playing with each other, they're all good and playful, and yet today some of them have never played here again."
Speaking further about the scene of mourning in the night, Hoang Thanh Du said: "Our whole alley last night was almost white watching the fire and supporting our comrades in the fire brigade. The stretchers carrying people from the fire kept going... constantly given during the night until the very morning. At one point, stretchers weren't even enough to get the victims out. Many were laid bare on stretchers because there were no blankets to cover. The people in the alley who saw this came together to take out the thin blankets of their houses to cover the victims."
"Last night, I saw many firefighters almost exhausted from struggling with the fire lady all night into the morning. Many people have bought food, water, fruit peeling ... to supply the soldiers. Many nearby residents also did not manage the night, wholeheartedly assisting the fire brigade to get the victims outside. Sisters support and encourage those whose loved ones have died," Hoang Thanh Du added.
According to director Hoang Thanh Du, because this mini apartment is at the end of the alley, the entrance is narrow and only two motorbikes avoid each other, so the rescue work faced many difficulties. Fire trucks had to stop off major roads and connect sprinklers. Currently, the tragedy of this mini apartment fire is still a hot topic, which is extremely interested in the whole country. People across the country are also praying incessantly, hoping that the toll will not increase, especially in terms of people.
