Who is musician Y Vu?
Musician Y Vu's real name is Tran Gia Hoi, he was born in 1940 in Hanoi, the younger brother of the late musician Y Van. In 1954, the musician and his family migrated to the South.
From a young age, he was taught music by his older brother. The debut song "I took you to the river" was composed by musician Y Vu when he was just 20 years old.
In 1969, while working in Vung Tau, he met and fell in love with a dancer named Kim. Witnessing her poverty and illness, musician Y Vu wrote a song named after her. The song "Kim" immediately became famous and was performed on many large and small stages.
In an interview in 2015, musician Y Vu confided that he had to work many different jobs to make a living, such as a rubber latex collector in Binh Phuoc, a construction site worker in Ho Chi Minh City. HCM, selling scraps and bottles.
Regarding love, he admitted that he had taken 34 lovers "across the river", until the 35th person, Y Vu's current wife, was the last ferry and stayed with the musician until the end. life.
The couple lives happily in a house on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City. When he was old, he spent time teaching and playing at several music venues in the city.

Struggling to correct the truth
In many conversations with the press, musician Y Vu admitted that his brother - musician Y Van - was his first teacher in music. Therefore, when he started composing, he took the stage name Y Vu, which is similar to his brother's stage name. Because the two brothers have similar faces and similar stage names, when the press wrote about musician Y Van or illustrated Y Vu's songs, there were a number of newspapers and television stations. Posted a photo of Y Vu but captioned it as Y Van. Especially after Y Van passed away in 1992, many newspapers still included Y Vu's photo in articles about Y Van. That made Y Vu very unhappy.
Y Vu once called a number of editorial offices to correct and replace the photo. One time, Y Vu was even so dissatisfied that he went on his personal page to blame this mistake.
He wrote: "This is my official photo taken a long time ago and is not a photo of the late musician Y Van (my biological brother). But it was mistakenly posted on social networks a long time ago. Then came the chapters. Music shows, even some programs on television stations have posted wrong pictures. My only request is that you should be careful with your business, don't hurt my brother's spirit or hurt me. While still alive, he almost became the avatar of his deceased brother."
The debut song "I Take You to the River" composed by Y Vu also bothered the musician for a long time due to the dispute. In a program on HTV in 2017, Y Vu said he composed this song in 1962, when his unrequited love with a girl failed. After composing, he gave the manuscript to musician Y Van to see. Y Van praised the song and suggested adding the name of author Nhat Ngan - who is a student studying music with Y Van. Therefore, in the music sheets printed that day, Y Vu - Nhat Ngan's name was written as the author of the song I took you to the river. "I freely accepted it, but I didn't expect it would cause so much trouble later."
After 1975, the song I took you to the river was performed by many overseas singers, however Y Vu did not receive any royalties and overseas, musician Nhat Ngan claimed that the song was his own. composed. That made Y Vu sad because he had to correct himself many times with friends and fans.
In 2017, Y Vu presented evidence, which was a handwritten manuscript of the song I took you to the river, written by Y Vu himself in 1962. According to Y Vu, this manuscript was kept by his mother, after she passed away. It took him a while to find it. His speaking up when musician Nhat Ngan passed away would easily cause misunderstandings, but Y Vu was forced to do so for his own honor. "The dispute over this song has made me sad for a very long time, but I couldn't express it, so I just kept feeling angry inside. I would like to confirm one thing that the song is mine, I wrote it alone" - Y Vu said.
According to Y Vu, the character in I Take You to the River is a girl named Thanh, his first love. But the love affair was not complete because he did not have a career and was poor while the girl was a young lady in a rich family. When the girl listened to her parents' advice to marry a doctor, Y Vu was so heartbroken that she composed this song. On Ms. Thanh's wedding day, Y Vu continued writing on your wedding day. The song Your Wedding Day is considered the next song of I Take You to the River because it has the words: "... in the past, I took you across the river - today, I take you across...".
