Previously, the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City announced the appeal verdict in the case of Nguyen Phuong Hang. The court sentenced Nguyen Phuong Hang to 2 years and 9 months in prison, while the remaining defendants were sentenced to 1 to 2 years in prison, all for the crime of "Abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State and the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals".

Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang was prosecuted and temporarily detained on March 24, 2022. If she serves her prison sentence according to regulations, Ms. Hang will not be released from prison until the end of December 2024.

However, in fact, this image was taken from the first instance trial of defendant Mai Xuan Cuong (born in 1990, residing in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City) on December 29, 2021 for the crime of extortion. Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang appeared in court as the victim of the case.

According to the People's Police newspaper, according to the trial, in July 2021, Mai Xuan Cuong used his mobile phone to text Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang to ask for 2 million VND, but Ms. Hang did not agree.

Cuong continued to send messages threatening to harm Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang's son, and at the same time, sent 'mature' photos with Ms. Hang's face cropped together with scolding and threatening to post the photos on social media. Fearing that Cuong might harm her son and use the cropped photos to damage her personal reputation, Ms. Phuong Hang transferred 2 million VND to Cuong's account and then filed a complaint with the authorities.

At the trial, defendant Cuong confessed his guilt. The jury sentenced defendant Mai Xuan Cuong to one year in prison, suspended, for the crime of extortion.
