Ngoc Doi added: "That was in 2004, my main salary was 50,000 VND per play, I only had money from singing. The monthly salary supported by people was about 300,000 VND. At that time, my family was very poor, I just went to school. My group borrowed 10 million VND, so my salary was just to pay off the debt and eat instant noodles to survive every day. Whenever I heard there was a competition, I would take the exam, because if I did my job, if I didn't take the exam, the audience wouldn't know me Life is the same. I competed in commune, district, and provincial awards. When I was 16 years old, I won first prize in the Cai Luong Singer contest, earning 5 million VND at that time all for my parents".
