After being accuse.d by her former student of oppressing and favoring Duc Phuc in The Voice, My Tam continues to be involved in a private scanda.l. The female singer was called out by Ms. Phuong Hang, revealin.g her private life without verification.
Faced with a series of controversies, My Tam chose a very profound response. Accordingly, she appeared in the middle of the storm with a calm attitude, even happy and excited.
Specifically, My Tam has just returned to the stage in a large-scale music night in Ho Chi Minh City. This is also the first time the female singer has appeared after a series of scandals.
Appearing in a pink off-shoulder outfit, My Tam showed off her radiant visuals and fresh demeanor. The public was surprised that at the age of over 40, the "brown-haired nightingale" still maintained her admirable form. In particular, the recent scanda.l caused by her former student did not seem to affect the female singer much, My Tam was still extremely professional and devoted on stage.
During the performance, My Tam maintained her top form as she sang live smoothly and interacted with the audience. The female singer performed many heroic songs, making the audience explode.
My Tam's attitude is like a gentle but profound response to Ms. Phuong Hang when this female CEO spread false rumors about her private life.
It can be said that after nearly 25 years of singing, My Tam is considered a "monument" of the Vietnamese music industry. She is also a pioneer female artist in protecting her music copyright in Vpop.
In the past, public opinion has continuously witnessed controversies surrounding music copyright infringement. Nam Em was publicly opposed by many musicians such as Kai Dinh and Hua Kim Tuyen for performing and covering songs without permission. Previously, Van Mai Huong was also criticized by the online community for continuously singing an international hit in entertainment programs without having the performance rights. Or most recently, Quoc Thien was sued for copyright infringement of the song Unnamed Love.
Although artists have come up with solutions, these incidents continue to expos.e a worrying reality: many professionals in Vietnam are still not fully aware of the value of copyright, especially in the context of increasingly diverse and difficult-to-control performance, distribution and commercial exploitation activities.
In that picture, My Tam's journey stands out as a bright spot. It was not until there was controversy that she spoke up. More than a decade ago, when the concept of "related rights" was still unfamiliar to many artists, My Tam took early action to protect the fruits of her labor, not only for herself but also to pave the way for an entire generation.
In August 2009, My Tam surprised the entire entertainment industry when her representative company officially sent a document to the Recording Industry Association of Vietnam (RIAV) and several major network operators, requesting payment of remuneration related to performance rights in recordings, ringback tones and ringtones.
This was an unprecedented action in Vpop at that time. My Tam affirmed that she did this not to cause a stir or gain benefits, but because she wanted to reclaim what artists deserved in a fair and transparent manner. After many rounds of negotiation, the relevant units agreed to pay royalties as she was a "performer".
The amount of nearly 1 billion VND was eventually transferred entirely by My Tam to her charity fund. But more importantly, for the first time, Vietnamese artists witnessed a specific action that was a deterrent and clearly oriented towards the rights of creative people in the music industry.
Not stopping at demanding domestic rights, in 2012, My Tam became the first Vietnamese artist to sign an official contract with YouTube to operate the "Official Artist Channel". In the context that most artists at that time did not really understand how this platform operates and divides profits, My Tam's action was a proactive step.
The contract with YouTube not only gives her better control over the distribution of her music products, but also ensures that My Tam's videos will be strictly protected from illegal copying. This not only helps build a professional image but also contributes to raising the level of Vietnam's digital music ecosystem, encouraging other artists to take the initiative to "share fairly" with global platforms.
My Tam has repeatedly stated that she will take strong action against sites that do not have copyrighted music. She and her team are ready to request the removal of all products from infringing websites and, if necessary, will sue them in court.
