Zhou Jieqiong was born in 1998 in Zhejiang, China. Before debuting, Zhou Jieqiong trained in Pledis Entertainment's sixth generation gir.l group program, honing her skills to prepare for her idol dream.
In 2013, the female idol first appeared on SEVENTEEN TV. In the summer of 2014, she joined the dance group supporting Orange Caramel's promotional campaign, showin.g of.f her outstanding dancing ability and professionalism even though she had not officially debuted.
The big break came in 2016 when Zhou Jieqiong participated in the first season of Produce 101. With a performance combining the pipa and a stable voice, the female idol was voted the No. 1 Visual by the trainees, then broke through from 19th to 6th place with 218,338 votes, winning a debut spot with IOI. That same year, IOI released their debut MV CRUSH, opening a new chapter with a vibrant melody and youthful style, quickly attracting attention and becoming a promising "prelude" to a new Kpop phenomenon.
Just two weeks later, Zhou Jieqiong and IOI appeared in the teaser of their own reality show Stand-by IOI, a 90-minute show divided into two episodes. With authentic behind-the-scenes moments from intense practice to adorable daily life, the show brought the female idol and the members closer to the audience, creating a special connection. Riding on the success, IOI released their debut album Chrysalis with 7 songs, of which the title song Dream Girls was ranked 4th in the top 10 most viewed Kpop MVs in the world in May 2016 on Youtube, affirming the group's strong appeal.
IOI's journey blossomed even more when, just 4 months after their debut, on June 10, 2016, YMC Entertainment announced their first sub-group with 7 members: Na Young, Chungha, Zhou Jieqiong, So Hye, Yoo Jung, Doyeon, and Somi, still keeping the name IOI to continue to conquer the audience.
In August 2016, IOI released a single album with the concept of gir.l crush with the title track Whatta Man (Good Man), a Korean remake of the song What A Man performed by Linda Lyndell. After only 1 hour of release, Whatta Man (Good Man) caused a fever when it entered the top 3 on most major online music charts in Korea, becoming a strong step forward for Zhou Jieqiong and the group. The MV on YouTube also quickly climbed to number 2 in the top 10 most viewed Kpop MVs in the world in August 2016, proving IOI's global appeal at that time.
This song also helped IOI win their first win on The Show with 9,012 points, and also put the song in the top 10 songs with the highest scores in the show's history. After the last week of promotion, the IOI sub-unit pocketed a total of 5 trophies from music shows in Korea, affirming their position as the queens of the time.
However, the success did not last long as in January 2017, IOI announced their disbandment. Zhou Jieqiong continued her musical journey by joining the group Pristin founded and managed by Pledis Entertainment, debuting in March 2017. As the group's main dancer, visual and visual, the female idol took the stage by storm with Wee Woo and the mini album Hi! Pristin, which sold nearly 4,000 copies on the first day and entered the top 10 of Billboard World Albums.
Pristin was once expected to be a "super rookie", and was even compared by the media to TWICE - the hottest gir.l group at that time. Both groups had pretty visuals, equal talent, and the same number of members.
Zhou Jieqiong then joined Pristin V (a sub-group of Pristin formed in 2018) and released the title track Get It (2018), but was unable to salvage the situation.
Returning to China, Zhou Jieqiong released a solo song called Why (2018), but the song was criticized as "bland" and did not leave an impression. Subsequent products such as Should I Go (2019) and Little Star (2021) were also "inferior", not competitive enough in the Chinese music market. Her music career is now "out of gas" due to lack of breakthroughs, and her appeal has decreased sharply after IOI and Pristin.
In addition to music, Zhou Jieqiong also tried her hand at acting to find a new path. She took on the lead role in The Great Tang Female Forensic Doctor (2020), but despite her outstanding beauty, her acting was not convincing enough, leaving the audience unimpressed. With the role of Li Yan in You Fei (2020), co-starring with Zhao Liying and Wang Yibo, the one-time female idol received attention, but the controversy over competing for screen time with her senior "85-year-old flower" caused her image to plummet in the eyes of fans.
Once a "goddess" of Kpop, Zhou Jieqiong's journey was quickly overshadowed by unnecessary scandals. The clima.x was the incident of betraying her former management company Pledis Entertainment in 2019. After Pristin disbanded, Zhou Jieqiong began to show signs of dissatisfaction with the management of Pledis and XCSS Entertainment (the company in charge of her activities in China).
In September 2019, she unilaterally sent emails and letters to terminate her contract with both companies, without any direct meetings or negotiations. This action was considered "unprofessional" and "ungrateful", because Pledis had trained her since she was a trainee, giving her the opportunity to debut with IOI and Pristin.
In response, in March 2020, Pledis filed a lawsuit against Zhou Jieqiong for breach of contract, requesting confirmation of the validity of the exclusive contract. XCSS Entertainment also filed a lawsuit in China, demanding compensation for her actions in leaving the company without permission. The lawsuit lasted until the end of 2020, causing Zhou Jieqiong's image to be tarnished in the eyes of Korean netizens, who mocked her for "biting the hand that feeds her" after using her fame from Kpop to return to China to develop.
Zhou Jieqiong's private life became even more noisy when she was constantly rumored to be dating "bad boys". First was the young master Wang Sicong, famous for his powerful family background and complicated personal life. In 2019, the couple was caught traveling in Japan, even appearing together in Shanghai, sparking dating rumors. Next, she was rumored to be dating Zhang Yixing when she was a coach in Idol Producer (2018), and later Cai Xukun, the student she had coached in the same show, with suspicions of "couple avatars" on social media. Although she denied all rumors, her image was still heavily affected.
Not stopping there, in 2022, Zhou Jieqiong was "expose.d" for wearing fake designer goods during a shopping trip with Lin Yun in Shanghai. She showed off a bag on social media that was said to be from a high-end brand, but netizens quickly discovered that it was a "fake" product with crooked seams and an incorrect logo. The image quickly spread on Weibo, causing her to be heavily condemned for deliberately living a fake life. This incident further damaged Zhou Jieqiong's image, and she was labeled "fake" in the eyes of the public. Her "slip of the tongue" statements on television made things worse, from unintentionally talking about colleagues to answers lacking EQ, making the audience sick to their stomachs.
As of 2025, Zhou Jieqiong has yet to regain the glory she had during IOI or Pristin. Her music career in China has almost "frozen" with no notable new products since Little Star (2021). Instead, she focuses on acting and television activities to maintain her recognition.
