During her recent world tour, Momo of TWICE caused great concern among fans when she revealed her alarming health condition. The idol was hospitalized in Chicago (USA) to ensure the smooth running of the show.
A difficult decision amidst the touring schedule.
Recently, through her interactions with fans, Momo appeared with a somewhat different-looking face. She quickly reassured fans and explained that she had just undergone an unexpected minor surgery to have a tooth extracted. "I just had a tooth extracted, so the left side of my face is still swollen. If it looks a bit different, please understand," the idol shared.
According to Momo's account, a sudden, intense toothache caused her to lose sleep completely the night before her performance in Chicago. The very next morning, she had to go to a local dental clinic for a check-up. There, the doctors confirmed that the area of her tooth that had previously undergone root canal treatment had worsened, causing severe pain.
Notably, this condition wasn't actually serious enough to require extraction if specialized treatment were given. However, due to her extremely busy and packed "Ready To Be" tour schedule, Momo couldn't wait or fly back to Korea for proper medical treatment.
"Actually, it wasn't necessary to have them extracted, but because I didn't have time, I had no choice. I really didn't want to, but I had no other option," Momo confided about her regrettable decision. She also added that she will undergo implant surgery after the tour ends and she returns home.
A wave of debate about the pressure faced by K-pop idols.
The news that Momo had to "sacrifice" a tooth to be able to perform on stage quickly became a hot topic of discussion on entertainment forums. The ONCE community (TWICE's fandom) expressed their sympathy for their idol's overwork. Many opinions suggested that an artist having to make such an extreme health choice just to avoid affecting the concert schedule is clear evidence of the harshness of the Korean entertainment industry.
Many netizens expressed their disapproval of the management company: "She's in so much pain she can't sleep, yet she still has to go on stage. It's truly unbearable." "Health should be the top priority. Who can endure such a packed schedule?" "Having a tooth extracted is a big deal, affecting both eating and speaking, yet she still had to try to complete the show."
Alarm raised over the health status of TWICE members.
Momo's situation isn't the only one causing fans concern during this World Tour. Previously, Dahyun had to temporarily suspend activities due to an ankle injury. Member Chaeyoung has also frequently been absent from some important schedules due to unstable health.
Currently, TWICE is on a massive global tour, traveling through numerous countries in Asia, the Americas, and Europe since July last year. The fact that the members are constantly facing physical problems while still having to maintain a high work intensity is sparking heated debates about the responsibility of their management companies in protecting their artists.
Despite maintaining a professional attitude and radiant smile in front of the camera, the "hidden aspects" behind the glamour, like Momo's story, once again remind the public of the high price K-pop stars have to pay to maintain their top status.
