Miss Universe 2024 held in Mexico has found a new owner of the crown, the Danish beauty - Victoria Kjær Theilvig. This victory is considered worthy, satisfying fans.
However, the contest continues to be shrouded in controversy even after it has ended. With scandals from the beginning of the contest, Miss Universe 2024 is considered a disappointing and forgettable season. Immediately after the Miss Universe 2024 final, ABC News premiered a documentary exposin.g the truth behind the Miss Universe organization, causing a stir in public opinion.
The episode, hosted by Good Morning America host Janai Norman, featured exclusive interviews with current and former figures involved in the beauty world including Rodrigo Goytortua, former executive director of Miss Universe Mexico, and Annemarie Pisano, former press director of Miss Universe.
The film also features an interview with Rafa Delphine, a beauty pageant expert who has been following the pageant scene for nearly 30 years and is the founder of the blog Critical Beauty. Rafa Delphine commented that the production of Miss Universe 2024 was a disaster.
"Many of the 125 girls spent six months to a year preparing, but only appeared on stage for 1-2 seconds. This is clearly a pure business, the more countries participate, the more mone.y they earn. I think this year they sacrificed quality for quantity. That left fans disappointed and upset," Delphine commented.
Meanwhile, Claudia Englehart - former social media director of the Miss Universe organization - revealed the terrible working environment after only 2 weeks on the job. Claudia described: "Leaders were demeaning, harsh, and hurtful to others".
Claudia also accuse.d Layla Rose - Miss USA president - of controlling staff, taking control of Miss USA's official IG account, blocking followers, posting and commenting in the name of the beauty queen.
More seriously, many prominent figures in the beauty industry have spoken out against Venezuelan beauty queen Osmel Sousa, who is currently an advisor to the president of Miss Universe. Accusations that Osmel Sousa specializes in brokering beauty pageants for politicians have been dug up again.
After the ABC News film, Paraguayan businessman Omar Hivan Castorino Montanaro continued to speak out about the Miss Universe organization's scanda.l of not paying the mone.y, which surprised many people.
Omar said he paid Anne Jakrajutatip - the owner of Miss Universe - half a million USD to win the right to host Miss Universe 2025 in Paraguay, but then the organizers ignored him and Paraguay was not even on the list of bidding countries announced by Anne.
"I know the brand needs mone.y. But making profits by stealing will not help in the future. I believe Miss Universe will end soon. They are making a lot of brand profits and are slowly killin.g it," Omar said.
The businessman added: "It was bad for Anne Jakrajutatip to buy the Miss Universe brand, but it was even worse when she sold half of it to Mr. Raul. I can't imagine what the future will be like. They bought Miss Universe even though they didn't know how to handle it properly. Now it's all about mone.y."
Omar also believes that the Thai billionaire's ambition to win Miss Universe is gradually damaging her brand. "You can win this year or the next two years, but we are not sure if Miss Universe will still exist in five or 10 years," Omar said.
Immediately after the ABC News documentary aired, the Miss Universe organization quickly issued an official response.
"The Miss Universe Organization, a renowned organization dedicated to empowering women globally for over 73 years, firmly addresses the recent baseless allegations presented in a newly released documentary. The alleged content contains false information intended to undermine the integrity and values for which our organization is known and held dear," the organization said.
"We regret that such a reputable media outlet, known for its journalistic standards and credibility, has chosen to publish assertions without referencing credible sources or providing evidence to support the claims made. Unfortunately, this approach undermines public trust and the principles of fair and ethical reporting," the organizers said.
