Typically, on July 24, the Miss Italy organization announced the regulations of this year's pageant. Patrizia expressed the opinion that beauty pageants that accept transgender contestants are in fact just a ploy to "burnish" their names to attract media attention.

"Lately beauty pageants are gaining media attention using strategies that I think are ridiculous. The Miss Italy pageant won't make headlines that way.

As long as I run the Miss Italy pageant, only biologically correct women can participate, not those who identify themselves as women," Patrizia said.
