It's been nearly a week since the Miss Universe 2025 Finals, but the buzz surrounding the contest has yet to cool down.
In Vietnam and on international beauty forums, fans continuously expressed their frustration with the way the pageant was run, scored, and a series of controversial situations throughout this year's journey.
The MC of the contest announced his resignation.
ABS-CBN news agency reported that Steve Byrne - the host of Miss Universe 2025 - announced his resignation amid the controversy surrounding the contest. This is seen as a move to confirm that he is no longer involved with the Miss Universe organization, and at the same time ending his role after many years of accompanying.
In a video posted on Monday, Byrne said he had returned to the United States and had only made the decision after careful consideration. "I feel it is time to step down as Miss Universe host," he said. Byrne sent his prayers and support to the Jamaican representative after the fall during the qualifying round on November 19.
Two beauty queens give up their titles
A series of controversies broke out when Miss Universe Estonia 2025 - Brigitta Schaback - announced her resignation just two days after the final. The beauty said that her personal values and professional ethics no longer matched those of the national director who holds the copyright of Miss Universe in Estonia. On Instagram Story, Brigitta said that she "registered for the wrong contest". She - who is married with children - felt discriminated against, even though the official rules allow married women to participate.
Brigitta asked: "If my family status is not important, why was I asked to declare it in the application form, procedures and even in the interview with the judges?". Her sharing immediately created a big wave of discussion in the beauty community.
Just one day later, Olivia - representing Ivory Coast - announced her resignation from the title of 4th runner-up and Miss Universe Africa & Oceania. On Instagram on November 24, Olivia explained that she wanted to uphold her personal values such as respect, dignity, fairness and the spirit of excellence. She emphasized that leaving the Miss Universe organization was a way to protect her principles and respect other contestants. Olivia quickly received strong support from the national organization, fans and many contestants. Miss Universe Indonesia 2025 Sanly Liu wrote: "A title does not make a queen. Integrity does."
The remaining two runners-up have surprising moves.
The drama has not stopped when the second runner-up from Venezuela is constantly pressured by fans, asking her to give up the title. Although she has not given a direct response, the country's social media is still fiercely divided on whether she should continue to accompany the Miss Universe organization or not.
Meanwhile, the first runner-up - representing Thailand - is said to be considering her future. Some unofficial sources say that if she wants to keep her title, she must sign a contract to work directly for Miss Universe, meaning she will no longer be under the complete management of Mr. Nawat. The new move from Miss Universe Thailand has further spread the rumor: their homepage has changed its cover photo and only lists the title "Miss Universe Thailand", no longer mentioning the position of first runner-up Miss Universe 2025. This is seen as a sign that the agreement between the two sides has not reached a result.
Amid the tension, Mr. Nawat also made a notable move when he posted a clip teasing his fans, saying the name "Mexico" and referring to the contest as a "cooking show". The beauty community said that this statement was sarcastic, aimed at directly attacking this year's results.
