Manbo: GERDNANG member stands in front of HIEUTHUHAI, failed Rap Viet casting 3 times

Manbo is known as one of the 3 founding members of GERDNANG along with HIEUTHUHAI and Hurrykng. Following his teammate, he just had an extremely impressive debut at "Rap Viet" season 4.

Manbo's real name is Lam Bach Phuc Hau, born in 1999 and belongs to GERDNANG - a famous group with hits "Turn on the Music", "Play" and "Cua". He started with music in 11th grade after listening to rap songs by Karik and Wowy.

"Really, the rap lyrics of these two guys made me change a lot. I dare to think and dare to do, the seniors have paved the way, so why don't I join this game to keep up with the seniors who went before me?", the male rapper confided.

In 2018, Manbo, HIEUTHUHAI and Hurrykng founded the team GERDNANG, bringing his name closer to the audience. In 2020, when Rap music was popular and also his main direction, the male rapper suddenly released a Pop song, very different from before.

Explaining this, Manbo said: "I think changing to a new, cheerful music color every now and then is a good way for people to see Manbo in a different way. "Sunshine" is a song inspired by lingering feelings and first love experiences. Why do we love and like each other but have to stay silent, not daring to confess, say it, hiding it in our hearts and then having to miss it. With this song, it took me about a year to perfect the lyrics, melody and MV."

Looking back on leaving "King Of Rap" too soon, Manbo is not too worried because it depends on luck. After all, the male rapper has tried very hard to show his ability. Despite the failure, he is determined not to give up, continuing to improve and prepare for a comeback "more powerful than before".

As one of the three founding members of GERDNANG, it wasn't until 2021, when HIEUTHUHAI brought the song "Cua" to the show "King Of Rap", that Manbo became more known as Hieu's teammate.

Because they were in the same group, Manbo and HIEUTHUHAI could not avoid being compared by the audience, especially Hieu, who at that time was making a strong impression in the rap competition. However, Manbo thought differently: "Why should I feel pressured when a friend of mine is so successful? Hieu is like a lever for me to try harder."

Since this period, HIEUTHUHAI has made a great contribution in pulling the GERDNANG team up. Not only did he constantly mention the members in the show "King Of Rap", but after the show, he also continued to work with GERDNANG to produce many notable songs such as "1-800-Love", "Dynamic Duo", "See you under the moonlight", "Mamma Mia"...

But after 3 years, while HIEUTHUHAI and HurryKng are becoming more and more famous, Manbo seems to have stagnated. On his Spotify account, the most listened songs are all music products combined with the group and he has very little personal mark.

Many people think that Manbo is inferior in appearance compared to other members of the group. In addition, his voice and rap style are not very impressive. His most listened to solo songs mostly revolve around the theme of love such as "Nang", "Ngay khong em", "Anh khong biet anh lam sai vao gi",... there is really no breakthrough in content.

Manbo said that there was a time when he felt lost because he didn't know which path or style to follow. That's why the male rapper wanted to find his own strengths.

Last year, the young man released the song "Anh Tung", sharing his journey of struggling to make a living, overcoming difficulties to pursue his passion for making music and becoming famous at the age of 20 (with GERDNANG).

After 3 seasons of Rap Viet failing the casting round, Manbo felt that 2024 was the "ripe" time for him to find a breakthrough opportunity. Therefore, he boldly registered to participate in this playground once again.

Appearing in Rap Viet season 4, Manbo introduced himself as the person who "always stands before HIEUTHUHAI". Because the rap line in the song "Cua" that was once a hit was: "Manbo, HIEUTHUHAI. We look so cool, cold as ice without even trying".

Many people expressed their joy at Manbo's comeback and continuously sent him sincere words of encouragement. "It's your turn to shine, MANBO!", "Keep fighting, MANBO, this playground belongs to you",... are comments left by netizens.

On the Conquest stage, Manbo showed that he has matured in his rapping skills, musical thinking, delivery and content. The male rapper performed the song "Hanh Trinh Khong Thuong" with the support of singer Orange, in the storytelling style (storytelling through lyrics) with clear, concise and meaningful words, helping the audience easily feel the messages he sent.

Manbo recounts his own journey, about the pressure of early fame as follows: "Success comes too early, it's easy to forget yourself/Where do you put yourself in the 5 lines when the music is played. I try so hard to be recognized but they close their eyes and ignore/The sweet words poured into my ears are exactly what I don't need".

Being selected by all 4 coaches and Karik's First Choice (first choice from the qualifying round) is a worthy achievement for Manbo's "non-stop journey". Notably, according to judge JustaTee, Manbo initially failed the qualifying round of Rap Viet 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City, but the male rapper did not give up, continued to Hanoi to compete and was selected.
