"Skin Ghost" My Duyen: Possessing a boneless nose, overcoming prejudice to become a model

Since birth, My Duyen has often felt self-conscious because of her boneless nose, which is all fat tissue. Overcoming all the scorn, My Duyen has inspired many young people to be confident, love themselves and turn their differences into their own unique features.

Ma Da is a newly released Vietnamese horror film but is receiving a lot of attention from the public. Partly because the film is based on the famous folk legend "ma da keo gio" in the river region. Besides, the acting of the actors in the film is also a highlight that makes many people "startled", especially the character ma da.

Not in the main character line, just appearing and disappearing, but true to its name, the ghost made many moviegoers' hearts skip a beat. The appearance in the movie is considered truly horror with messy hair and a slimy body.

However, the most surprising thing is the real-life identity of the ghost. It is known that Pham Thi My Duyen (born 2003), also known by many as "10X with a boneless nose", plays the role of ghost in the movie of the same name. Outside, My Duyen is pursuing a modeling career, she is said to have an outstanding height of 1m80, and an extremely attractive beauty.

Pham Thi My Duyen is a law student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry. Because of her special nose, My Duyen has to face gossip and contempt, making her feel self-conscious.

Since birth, My Duyen has had a congenital nasal deformity. The model choked up as she shared: "Even when I was born, I didn't have a breathing tube in my nose. The doctor had to cut a small straw to create an airway. It wasn't until I was in third grade that I had my first surgery to implant cartilage in my nose. And I planned to have another surgery at the beginning of this year, but due to some problems, I had to wait," My Duyen said.

Unfortunately, because of her birth defect, My Duyen was even more traumatized when her friends spoke maliciously to her at school. She even had to face the contempt from her own teacher. This teacher said that My Duyen was "not qualified" to participate in the school's elegant student contest. The teacher noted that the contest was only for "beautiful" girls.

Then My Duyen was shocked when she accidentally discovered that she was the subject of gossip and badmouthing in school. A group of friends secretly took a picture of her, enlarged her face, circled it with derogatory comments and then spread the picture to others.

That malicious attack was the last straw that broke My Duyen's sensitive heart. During the first semester of 10th grade, she fell into depression, cried all day, constantly asked her parents to let her drop out of school, and even thought about doing something stupid.

Duyen's parents, with the sensitivity of those who gave birth to and loved their disadvantaged child, discovered those abnormalities. They advised and encouraged their daughter and tried to find ways to bring Duyen back.

During the days his daughter locked herself in her room, her father planned the menu for his wife to go shopping and then cooked delicious dishes for Duyen. Every now and then, he would go up to his daughter’s room, peek at her, then go back down, keeping an eye on her for fear that she would do something stupid. In 10th grade, Duyen’s academic performance was only average, but no one in the family felt bothered by that.

My Diep, Duyen's younger sister, also tried her best to protect her sister, "ruffling her feathers" in the face of malicious comments. Duyen gradually calmed down. Answering the question of how to overcome the crisis, My Duyen said that she did not have any specific story or turning point to help her overcome her trauma due to "body shaming", but thanks to the encouragement of her family, seemingly every day, My Duyen gradually accepted herself and chose to face and overcome all difficulties.

Besides the support of her family, her modeling career is also a "catalyst" that helps My Duyen confidently "step into the light" and express herself.

Duyen said she got into modeling by chance. In 10th grade, My Duyen accompanied her twin sister to a modeling contest. At first, she only wanted to support her sister, but everyone encouraged her to try, so she also participated. Unexpectedly, through the contest, Duyen received a lot of attention and invitations to take photos.

Among them is the Healing photo series by photographer My Dien, a project that brings together models with unique appearances. Thanks to the photo series, My Duyen has also become more well-known.

Participating in The Face Vietnam 2022, My Duyen brought a meaningful message that expressed her feelings and the feelings of many others: "Stop body shaming". Even though she was not really suitable for The Face Vietnam's criteria to be able to go further to the next rounds, My Duyen was still praised and admired by the judges and many audiences for her unique beauty and the smile that was always on her lips.

Currently, My Duyen has overcome all prejudices, becoming a photo model, a model walking on many runways. Or recently, she has also ventured into acting and has received a lot of praise and support. It is also because of this special beauty that My Duyen can easily transform into many different images, attracting and "catching the eye" of many stylists as well as film directors.
