From the day she was born, My Duyen was less fortunate than her twin sister because she had a nose with a birth defect. This trait causes the young girl to face many obstacles in life.

At birth, there was a lump of flesh on the bridge of Duyen's nose, the two nostrils were pressed down, unable to breathe. From Tu Du Hospital, My Duyen moved to Children's Hospital 1 to lie down for 28 days, the doctor had to take out a chopped straw to enter, lift her nostrils up to let her breathe.

Because of her special nose, during her days as a high school student, My Duyen was a victim of body shaming, was teased many times by friends and assigned many malicious nicknames.

Stigma, teasing from friends, even teachers and adults made My Duyen suffer deeply. She even fell into a mental crisis and asked to drop out of school.

When her unusual nose was discussed, Duyen gradually fell into low self-esteem, guilt, gradually alienated from everyone, did not want to talk to anyone. In class, she crouched in a corner, when she got home, she rushed into her room and closed the door.

My twin sister, My Diep, studied at the same school. She often caused trouble and demanded justice for her sister, so she often raised her voice to her friends.

"You are unlucky, with a normal appearance like me, so you have to suffer a lot. I think I must always protect you," Diep said.

However, the protection of her sister did not make Duyen more confident and courageous to face the faces of discrimination in the classroom. In contrast, Duyen many times compared and envied her own sister. The fate of the Creator was unfair so that she had to bear the loss and suffered a different appearance.

During the first semester of 10th grade, Duyen repeatedly asked her parents to leave school and thought about death. There are days, Duyen sneaks to buy many different medicines and drink freely. Having been weak since birth, then suffering from depression, the schoolgirl was thin and exhausted. Father Duyen, Mr. Pham Ngoc Dung, 51 years old, is always close to, advising and encouraging his daughter. Although she never said it, Duyen knew that her father was very worried about her.

In the days when the daughter locked herself in her room, the father made a menu for his wife to go to the market and then cooked delicious dishes for Duyen himself. From time to time he went up to his daughter's room, opened the door to look at her, and then went down again to watch for fear that she would do something foolish. In 10th grade, Duyen's academic achievement was only average.

Through the 10th grade, the stormy thoughts stopped after Duyen's "miss", then in grade 11, she registered for an elegant student contest at school because of her outstanding height. The girl was shocked when a teacher reviewed the profile and said: "My Duyen is not eligible to participate because the contest is only for those who have good looks and beauty".

She confided at the program Knocking on the Door: "I don't think that my classmates in high school have discriminatory thoughts about their appearance while they are all 16 years old. It was like a first shock. life, making me so sad and pitiful that I had to ask my parents to transfer schools."

Heartbroken because her daughter had an unlucky appearance, My Duyen's family made up for it with much care and love for her. Thanks to the encouragement and support of her family, My Duyen stood up, turned difficulties into motivation, always kept a positive and optimistic attitude.

Love helps My Duyen to be stronger in the face of hard-to-hear disparaging words. Since then, she has gradually become stronger and more confident with her special appearance.
