The confidant of Empress Dowager Cixi - Li Lianying, who passed away in 1911, was buried in southwest Beijing, China. Surprisingly, when excavating this eunuch's tomb, the expert was shocked by the scene inside.
According to history books, eunuch Ly Lien Anh (1848 - 1911) served Empress Dowager Cixi for nearly 53 years. Thanks to his intelligence and ability to see the "face" of his master, this eunuch was trusted and respected by the Lao Buddha family. The eunuch of the Ly family with great power in his hands has caused many "turbulences" in the harem and even the royal court.
When Empress Dowager Cixi was still alive, Ly Lien Anh had a luxurious and powerful life and was flattered by many people. However, after the queen mother passed away in 1908, the eunuchs lost their strong support. Because he knew he had "offended" many people in the past, after completing his master's funeral, the eunuch surnamed Ly asked to leave the palace. At this time, he was 61 years old.
It is known that in the last years of his life, Ly Lien Anh lived in seclusion. And no one knows exactly where this eunuch is, because Empress Dowager Ci Hi's one-time confidant had 3 houses in Hai Dien town.
Because he was a longtime eunuch of the Qing Dynasty, when he was about to die, Ly Lien Anh asked the court for a thousand taels of white silver as funeral money. With this money, the eunuch allowed people to build a majestic tomb in southwest Beijing, China.
After breathing his last breath in 1911, Ly Lien Anh was buried in a grave prepared early. Notably, the cause of his death is still a big mystery.
In 1966, Ly Lien Anh's tomb was excavated by experts. When they entered, they were extremely surprised, even shocked, when they saw the scene displayed before their eyes.
Accordingly, the coffin of the eunuch of the Ly family was purple-red in color, carved with intricate patterns and placed on a bed of jade. Above the bed is a coffin cast from white jade stone and inside hangs a purse containing jade and a few bronze coins.
This is the "Kim Tinh Ngoc Burial" type of burial - a noble form of burial at that time. When opening the coffin lid, the team of experts found a remains inside. However, after removing the blanket and layers of clothing, they were shocked to see a layer of black mud inside.
According to experts, in addition to the skull, Ly Lien Anh's bones have decomposed, leaving only black mud. Besides the remains of this eunuch, they also found a rosary and more than 50 pieces of silver and jewels that were buried.
This shows that Ly Lien Anh was buried quite lavishly. The jewels buried with the eunuchs may have been the wealth he accumulated during his years serving Empress Dowager Cixi.
Many people wonder how much the Old Buddha family really likes Ly Lien Anh? Some history books record that, because of him, she did not even hesitate to do things that went against her ancestors' regulations. Because King Ung Chinh once stipulated that the eunuch's rank was only up to fourth grade, not higher.
In 1879, Ly Lien Anh reached that highest rank of eunuch. At that time, Empress Dowager Cixi believed that this rank did not fully express her love for her confidant. So in 1894, the Elder Buddha granted him a second-class rank with a king feather crown. Before that, no eunuch had ever enjoyed such a privilege.
With the Queen Mother as support, Ly Lien Anh's power grew, he could do whatever he wanted, colluding with courtiers, selling officials and selling titles. The Queen Mother knew this in her heart, but still closed her eyes and let it go.
So why does Ly Lien Anh have absolute trust in Empress Dowager Cixi? That's because he has the ability to understand people's hearts. A widow's life in the palace is basically lonely, and in the whole world, there is only this eunuch who can help the queen mother solve her loneliness and sadness.
When following the queen mother out of the palace, he will anticipate the change in warm and cold weather and prepare all kinds of clothes. No matter where you go, you will bring your favorite daily items with you. At the same time, he also knew how to observe the situation, being sensitive to every change in Tu Hi's face and guessing her mood.
That kind of attentive, meticulous, and delicate service is difficult for ordinary people to do. Ly Lien Anh can be said to have gained favor based on his strength. He was truly born to be a eunuch. It is even recorded in Chinese history books that when Empress Dowager Cixi ate, she never forgot Ly Lien Anh. If she encountered a dish or something he liked, she would keep it for him.
In the memory of the eunuch Luu Hung Kieu, it was said that every day, 3 meals a day, morning and evening, the Queen Mother and Ly Lien Anh exchanged questions such as "Are you eating well?", "Are you resting well?" ?"... Sometimes she even ran to his bedroom herself to call: "Lien Anh, let's go for a walk!". So Ly Lien Anh went for a walk with her again.
The Queen Mother could even bring Ly Lien Anh to her palace to discuss longevity techniques to prolong life, often talking late into the night. There is no separation between them by noble and lowly positions. They are people in the same boat, have an extremely close relationship, and are emotionally attached.
One day, the Queen Mother went to call Ly Lien Anh, but unexpectedly he was lying in bed sick. She immediately ordered the royal physician to check his pulse and prescribe it for him. She had to see him take the medicine with her own eyes before she could feel secure. This action went beyond the usual master-servant relationship and was about truly caring for each other.
