Recently, Long Chat Quan has received a lot of attention when the Food Safety Department 'watched' and investigated the product. However, up to now, the agency revealed that Long Chat Quan has steadfastly denied importing prohibited goods but has not cooperated with the investigation.
On the morning of May 23, the social networking site " Long Chat - 268 Hong Lac HCM" posted a letter of thanks and apology to customers after a series of days facing a "serious media crisis" . In the letter, Long Chat affirmed: "Do not import and use intestines originating from China. Do not use fake intestines, soaked in chemicals, affecting the health of consumers".
The establishment also said it had to temporarily suspend operations due to many consequences: canceled orders, psychologically disturbed staff, "ship bombing" and insults over the phone. "Long Chat is facing a serious media crisis. A lot of information on social networks, including unverified, edited images and videos, has spread at a dizzying speed..." , the establishment shared. Long Chat hopes that "the community will verify information before sharing" so as not to "push people who do decent jobs into a dead end".
Difficulty in investigation and sampling
Meanwhile, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety is contacting the owner of Long Chat , a famous "pipe intestine" shop in Tan Binh District, to invite him to work according to regulations, after conducting an on-site inspection earlier. The reason is that this shop has closed. In addition, according to Ms. Pham Khanh Phong Lan , Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety , the authorities also cannot get samples of pipe intestines, because shops in the area all reported "out of stock" .
"There are no samples to take, they have denied everything. Now there is only normal intestines on the market," Associate Professor Dr. Pham Khanh Phong Lan shared with the press. Because they cannot take samples of the intestines, the Food Safety Department will immediately review and inspect other related products. Regarding whether the Long Chat facility has violated the law or not, we still have to wait for the final conclusion from the inspector.
Concerns about the car's interior and the actions of the authorities
Previously, the dish was advertised as a rare organ, measuring up to 40 meters in length. Many videos circulating on social media showed trays of unusually long organs, causing public opinion to question the authenticity and processing process. Some opinions were concerned that this food may have been chemically intervened to create a crispy, long feeling that is not true to its nature, potentially posing a risk to food safety.
Experts warn that offal is a food group that is susceptible to bacteria and parasites. Cleaning or soaking in chemicals to make it crispy can potentially cause digestive disorders or even serious infections if not processed properly.
In the face of controversy, authorities in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi have simultaneously taken action. In Hanoi, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department has requested the Cau Giay District People's Committee to inspect the establishment that posted the video of the 40-meter-long cigarette cart. Meanwhile, in Ho Chi Minh City , the inspection team focused on verifying the origin, processing method, and quality of the products sold on the market.
On May 13, the Food Safety Interdisciplinary Inspection Team of Cau Giay District (Hanoi) suddenly inspected the "Long Chat Quan" (pipe intestines) establishment at 18 Tran Thai Tong, Dich Vong Hau Ward. Working with the inspection team, the owner of the establishment, Mr. Ngo Quyen The, said that the establishment specializes in processing dishes made from intestines, not just pipe intestines. Regarding the 40m long intestines, Mr. Ngo Quyen The said that the image was posted on social networks Facebook and TikTok in 2024. Mr. The also apologized to consumers for the information and images posted because he "exaggerated" , and said: "Actually, the intestines are only about 25-27m long".
Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety said it will continue to review related establishments, while strengthening inspections of the supply and processing of offal products being consumed in the city.
